Well, I use to play the Alto Saxophone in band. I quit, our old band teacher left, and I and many others left with him. That's besides the point...

I want to learn how to play the piano. I know how to read music and everything (i was 1st chair Sax)

How much harder is the piano??

I've never played the Alto Saxophone before, but I can tell you that piano isn't very hard to learn.

piano is not hard to learn, but its harder to master. the basics are easy, however when you get more advanced it gets harder like everything else. i've been playing the piano since I was 5 years old I'm almost 17 now. I was going to learn alto sax for marching band because it would be one of the easiest for me to pick up on. i don't know if that helped or not.... with piano you read 2 clefs, treble and bass. i'm not sure what you read for sax. i think its one clef. so you will need to read two clefs at the same time, playing notes in both hands, different patterns and rhyms, at different volumes. left hand plays softer unless it has the melody. piano is the second hardest instrument, organ is first. with piano you have rules on how to play things, and to be a polished pianist you have to know how your hand is supposed to be curved not flat, sit properly. reading and playing notes is easy thougth once you get the basics. good luck, its a fun instrument i'd suggest trying it out. if i could play it when i was 5, like a lot of people can when they first start, you can definately play it being 1st chair sax no problem. have any other questions feel free to PM me at anytime.
