ok i have a big addiction to cracking my knuckles. i crack them more than 15 times a day. probably more. my question is (woops. just cracked them) how can i stop this. im actually getting worried about it. sometimes i crack them when they dont need to be. i can actually "reset" my knuckles to crack again which i do alot. (cracked them again x's 2). Usually it feels like, when i crack my pinky, it feels like it will break  when i crack my thumbs, sometimes bruises form around them. this is starting to worry me (just cracked them again.) even when im typing this im stoping to crack them. usually when they dont need to be. sometimes, i do it way too much my thumbs start to hurt and i may feel pain in my pinky finger. i dont know if this is true or not, but when you crack knuckles, dont they get bigger over the years? (crack. there i go again.) this is a big addiction for me and i want to know a few ways to stop. any advice?

One thing you can do is let friends and family know that if they notice you about to do it, say something to make you stop.

I would get a stress ball. Or a rubber band. Put that on your wrist and just flick that. Knuckle cracking is a very bad habit, I'm happy that you want to get rid of it.

Its a bad habit really. Cracking your knuckles loosens then, form what I heard. It becomes a problem when you get old

I used to be in your situation, but gave up and i can't crack them if i tried.

What i did is tell my friends and family, and have something like a rubber band or some blue-tack to fiddle with and to keep my mind occupied.

Therefore, my friends and family stopped me if i did it and the blue-tack helps if i am alone.

Hope this helps.

P.S: If you still can't do it, speak to a doctor. It may seem stupid, but this can cause medical problems later in life, so they will help you.

I'll try some ideas like a stress ball. All day today I was trying not too but couldn't help it. My knuckles were begging to be cracked. They are right now. I've been cracking them since the 5th grade. And now it's just getting worse. I'll try your ideas.

Ps. Doesn't cracking knuckles make them bigger. Because mine are pretty large. And my middle finger's knuckle on my right hand is a little tad bit larger than my left hand middle finger's knuckle.

good if you want to have arthritis i have it early because i sign (deaf) and crack my fingers so my fingers go through alot of wear and tear it breaks down your cartilage and makes bone slide on bone making them brittle and causes them to fail

Buuuuullshiiiiiiit.

When you "pop your joints" it's really just nitrogen bubbles popping. It does no damage at all.

I would actually see a doctor because somethings wrong if they crack when you type, that or just refrain from it.

I hear that it causes arthritis as you get older. I am not 100% on this, but i would suggest you stop to make sure it doesn't happen. maybe talking to your parents to see if they can help. Also a good thing as said above is a stress ball it could be an asphyxiation with you hands just be cautious

nah. I pause typing to do it. I put rubber bands on my fingers right around my knuckles AND IT WORKS! literally. It's being occupied by that instead of me cracing them. I went three days without the rubber bands and sadly when I take them off I want to crack them again. But the good news is that when I do crack them they hurt like hell and that will make me stop. They are use to not being cracked like they use to be. I'm going going to put them back on tomorrow.
