It's kind of gross and personal, but I feel I really need to ask about this.

Does taking a shower (and thoroughly drying yourself) before applying antiperspirant prevent it from wearing off as fast?

Also, does shaving your underarm hair really make you smell less? (not eager to find out myself, just something I've heard about a lot)

Besides, why do I (and a lot of other people) sweat a lot, even when we aren't the least bit overheated?

And how come you don't sweat very much or get any body odour when you're kid, but then it suddenly starts up when you hit puberty and continues for the rest of your life? :(

These kinds of questions are what we're here for. ;)

Not generally, they amount you apply to your underarms /will/, however, have an effect on how long it lasts.
My suggestion to you if you find that your anti-perspirant is wearing off in the middle of the day is to carry a stick around with you (Like in a backpack) and re-apply as needed.

Also, does shaving your underarm hair really make you smell less? (not eager to find out myself, just something I've heard about a lot)
No, in fact it can make you smell worse. Your underarm hair is there for a purpose, it directs the sweat away from your pits, so it doesn't sit there and stagnate. If you shave the hair, the sweat can pool up in your pit, and stagnate leaving a very nasty odor behind.

Besides, why do I (and a lot of other people) sweat a lot, even when we aren't the least bit overheated?
Simple answer: Puberty. Puberty causes many teens to sweat alot.

And how come you don't sweat very much or get any body odour when you're kid, but then it suddenly starts up when you hit puberty and continues for the rest of your life? :(
Look up one.

Does taking a shower (and thoroughly drying yourself) before applying antiperspirant prevent it from wearing off as fast? Yes, I think so as I always take a bath before applying it.

Also, does shaving your underarm hair really make you smell less? (not eager to find out myself, just something I've heard about a lot) I started trimming my underarm hair a long time back, so no idea about this question

Besides, why do I (and a lot of other people) sweat a lot, even when we aren't the least bit overheated? I had this problem. I asked my doctor about it and she prescribed me some aluminum chloride. It stopped my sweating problem rather quickly and it's cheaper than Botox. You should definitely discuss it with your doctor to see what's best for you.

And how come you don't sweat very much or get any body odour when you're kid, but then it suddenly starts up when you hit puberty and continues for the rest of your life? :frown: You become hyperactive when you are a teen(it's just my guess).

I would like to point out that in the US (and most other "western" countries while yes, aluminum chloride is still classified as a drug, you do not need a prescription to get it. In fact, most combination antiperspirant-deodorants contain aluminum chloride in them as one of the active ingredients.

(not saying your info is wrong, just adding info and suggesting that it is not necessary for him to get a prescription for it)
