Its brilliant. You can get it on new computers or buy it. No, its not free. Very far from free. Its well worth it though.

Yes it's good, it's like Vista on the best steriods that money can't buy, you can get through various means (Buying a new PC, buying a retail copy, ect), it can do damn near everything you want it to. And it /can/ be free (Not illegally either). Find out if your school participates in the MSDN AA (Microsoft Developers Network Acadamic Alliance), if it does you can get a copy of 7 Enterprise (Think Ultimate with added features) for free.

I got mine free, most major computer companies have a Windows 7 upgrade program if you bought your computer after June 30th 2009 (Dell) some started back in May of 09. So if you purchased a computer over the summer and had
vista as the o.s. then you may be able to get a free one.

Other than that it would be difficult to get a free one unless its a "pirated but we will not go there". You can also check like said in the post above if your eligible for one.

I recommend going to windows 7 even if you have to pay for it, its worth the cost.
