View Full Version : Parental Assumptions...

Okay, I haven't seen anything like this recently, and I dont want to bump an old thread, so, how many people's parents have rediculous assumptions of them?
Eg, my mum think's I'm bullimic because I eat alot/dont eat at all some days,
My dad think's I'm a 'fag'...
Both of my parents think I'm depressed and cutting myself...
Which would make me a bullimic-binge-eating-self-hating/harming-gay-kid... Great combo, huh?
So, I guess what I'm asking is, are everyone's parents stupid like this? I mean, it's incredibly far from the truth.
Do your parents have some incredibly abstract idea aobut you?
ADDED: I wonder how they'd cope if I told them they were completely wrong and I just saw things at night? Tehehe. I'm sure that'd help them re-evaluate their opinion...
EDIT: Spelling mistakes were getting to me... =/

My mom thinks I'm a lesbian. My uncle started it when I refused to take my cousin to homecoming and things just escalated from there. Of course, I totally [jokingly] encourage it, mostly just to mess with them all and enjoy their discomfort. I've told them all many times that I'm straight but they only partially believe me. I'm ok with it lol.

My Dad think that I am a good-for -nothing girl who is always wasting my time away. As far as my step-mother is concerned, she completely ignores me.

Fortunately my parents and I keep a good line of communication open so there's no assumptions about anything...it is really nice

My parents were way too nosy with me. They know everything about me unfortunately. Where I go, who I hang out with.

I can talk about anything and everything to my parents and I know they will understand, you see my mum's has worked with teenagers all her life! and she was abused as a child and couldnt open up to her parents at all and she doesnt want that for me and my sister, and my dad well he's just great, He will listen to anything and everything and will try to help.

Yes, me too and I think that its good that we are all so close to each other.
My parents were way too nosy with me. They know everything about me unfortunately. Where I go, who I hang out with.
I think that they probably just wanted to protect you, my parents do the same (well if I ever go out lol). They just want/wanted to know your well and safe.
sorry for this being so long :P

Sure... Lets take it out of context.
I didn't mean it to be derogatory, thats his actual wording on the subject...
Gah, I tell my parents everything, but they allways think there's more too it.
I don't know, apparently I give of mixed signals. so their probably confused about how much I'm telling them or something... I don't know...

My mother thinks im a sexual devient when I say a girl looks pretty.
She has also considered me to be the bastard son of satan. Im not goth or emo, I am just an average guy.
My dad thinks im slow in the head cause I don't like football. And tells people this.

My father often assumes that if he does or doesn't like something, I'm inherently going to say the same. It's quite annoying because although we have some similar tastes in things, there's plenty of variation. He also assumes I'm homosexual because unlike him, I don't make constant comments on how a female's ass or tits or whatever look then stare at them then make some more comments. It's not that I don't like women, I do, however, I refrain from looking brutish and practically drooling whenever a female walks into my sight of vision. He has also assumed females who don't want to go with a good-looking guy are lesbians.
My mother doesn't do these assumptions, although she (as well as my father) assumes whenever I'm with a female, that female must be my girlfriend and not a friend who happens to be a girl. Sometimes they're right but they've been wrong a bunch of times also. It's not annoying, it's actually pretty funny because of what ensues lol.

My mom thinks I'm psychotic because of the time I was inpatient on a psych ward.
She also thinks that I still do drugs.
And that I can't be trusted with a sharp object.
She goes for the "badly attempt to fix the mess instead of prevent it" approach.
