Move over Mukmuk, there's a new mascot in town.
Polish newspaper Gazeta Olsztynska made a huge snafu when they ran an article on the 2010 Winter Games which included illustrations of the mascots: Quatchi, Sumi, Miga, sidekick Mukmuk and a new addition -- Pedobear.
Pedobear is a long-running Internet meme that originated from the 4chan forums. When a particularly lecherous person seemed to be hitting on underage adolescents users would post the Pedobear image directly afterwards to call them out. The meme has since taken on a life of its own, with photoshopped Pedobears popping up everywhere -- sorry, VANOC.
The Olympic mishap, which is already making the rounds on the Internet, looks like it's about to become viral. VANOC has been pretty quick to try to shut down inappropriate use of its copyright symbols but there's no stopping this one.
While the mishap is getting the LOLs online, it looks like not everyone was quick to catch the mistake. DeportesSpain.com has since posted an Olympic-related article including the same Google Image Search Pedobear illustration, even identifying him as such in the cutline.
Vancouver's own Michael Barrick, who created the original photoshopped image, is at least enjoying himself.
