So a few months ago I bought an iPod nano 5generation off of amazon. The instructions said that in order to charge it fully, it must be charged for 3 hours and that when it is full, a symbol will show. It also said that when it is fully charged, it can play up to 24 hours of music.

After a couple weeks, I noticed that the battery was dying quickly more quickly than what it said, so I decided to do a test. I timed how long I charged the iPod and I clocked in 3 hours and 1 minute. I then timed how long the iPod played music. It played for a total of 3 hours and 1 minute which is exactly the same amount of time that I charged it.

What I'm wondering is, is this normal? Is the playing time supposed to be the same as the charging time?

I'm thinking that maybe the Apple people expect the iPod to be charging all night so that it can play for maybe 10 hours. I don't know but if it is abnormal I'm going to call Apple to try and get it fixed.

On a side note, I was planning on maybe replacing the nano(which is 8gb) for an 8gb iPod touch which is only about $40 more. What do you think of this idea? Is the 8gb nano better than the 8gb touch and what are your reasons?

Was it like new off amazon? Or used. After time the bits in the battery which hold the power get 'old' and can't hold as much. If its 2nd hand this would be the main problem. If new, it could be another problem. Also, depending on what u want to do, if u want something small and easy to carry, nano, if u want apps and bigger movies, touch. :)

**Depending on if it was new off Amazon: Next time bye from a shop. Like an apple store, yes it costs more etc. But then you know, if something does happen, apple will fix it.**

I don't think that the batteries would wear-out after only a month.

I like how the questions were answered to get you a better answer. Was it brand new? Or used by someone else before?

Then its a Apple problem, ring them. *isnt sure how much Amazon cover* Just if they say u need to send it back, don't tell them you brought it from Amazon. Or else they might not do anything.

Well, in the package the apple people said that i had a one year warranty. Does that not apply if I didn't buy it from them?

The Nano battery should last much longer than that. I'd return it or have Apple fix it, as it is under warranty.

I've had my iPod Touch for over a year and I still get at least a day's worth of cknstant music. You just gotta turn down the brightness and turn off wireless and Bluetooth when you aren't using them.

I have the screen at the lowest brightness and I was reading the warranty and it said that it doesn't apply to batteries because they are disposible or something. The thing is that the battery has only been used for a month and it dies really fast. The last time I charged it, it was for 3hrs and it played for less than and hour. I've only owned the thing for a month.
