The definition of Love as given from the Bible, I think I like the English Standard Version best.

" Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (New International Version)

Another version of the same verse;
" Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (English Standard Version)

" Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (New Living Translation)

See what I mean? The spiritual or ideal definition of love contradicts the definition of romantic love. Most agree that romantic love is equally selfless and selfish.

How/when do people say that Love is selfish?

The Bible almost talks about Love incessantly. Did you know, that if you search "Love" in the 'keyword search' on BibleGateway.com it comes up with 697 results lol.
This religion is FAR from loveless, in fact, it's built almost entirely around Love.

The bible doesn't know what love is, no one knows exactly the perfect definetion. Everyone will come up with a different definetion. I don't need a book to tell me what love is, all I need is my expierences.

I disagree, I think the Bible does know what Love is. If the Bible is "The Word Of God" and God created everything, including Love, I'm pretty sure the Bible would give an accurate definition.

I disagree a bunch of dead trees cannot tell you what you will expierence.

It's not telling you what you will experience, it's more telling you how to handle what you do experience..
And it's the words on those "dead trees" that's what matter, and the fact that they're inspired (for lack of a better word) by the creator of the entire universe.

God didn't write the bible.

Yes I know that he didn't directly write it, but he did give the words to those who put those words onto paper.

No he didn't, he gave them the ten commandments. But in no account did he ever do it indirectly through anyone.

Love is..

1. Someone you can be yourself around in ANY situation.
2. Someone who accepts you for who you are and vice versa.
3. Someone who can make you happy; even if you are in the shitiest of moods.
4. Someone who after spending hours with, after they leave... you miss them.

Hello.
According to me Love mean Faith on each other and good understanding with each other. If we are in true love with someone then we just think that he/she must be happy in any situation and we just think how can we help and support to him/her in bad situation.

I don't believe in either Epistle to the Corinthians as biblical, but I think Paul gives a fairly good description of love for his time there. I have my own perspective of love, but I'll keep it to myself because I think it's better that people discover it for themselves.

God didn't write the bible.

Dude, stop dick riding. You're entitled to believe whatever you want, but stop trying to institutionalize your beliefs on other people. It's obnoxious and really overzealous.

Side Note: Whoever derepped me for this post, you're a coward. If you have something to say, say it to my face instead of hiding behind ambiguity. The irony that you'd derep me for this being "offensive" is hilarious, in of itself.

Does your heart ache and break when they're sad?

Are you attracted to others, but stay with them faithfully without regret?

Do you accept their faults because they're a part of who they are?

Do you cry for their pain, even when they're strong?

Do their eyes see your true heart, and touch your soul so deeply it hurts?

But do you stay because a blinding, incomprehensible mix of pain and elation pulls you close and holds you?

Would you give them your heart, your life, your death?

Now, if Love is painful, and tortures us so,

Why is it all we search for in life?
This pain, this agony?
Why is it all we long for?
This torture, this powerful death of self?
Why?
Because it's...
Love
