I've smoked pot and done coke, neither seem that fun to me. I see no real fun in it.
So my question to everyone is: What's so great about it to you?

People all have different reasons and effects of smoking. Some people think of it as a relaxer of all their problems. Others because they do it to do the opposite. They want something that makes them feel happier than happy.

I feel cannabis is both good for general relaxation / stopping nausea / relieving headaches and also as a conciousness expanding drug for meditation.

The reason for pot has been answered so I'll answer the one for cocaine. Without making this a lecture-long post, humans have a "reward system". This allows certain behaviors to be rewarded and is evolutionarily adaptive. However, this same system is very vulnerable to certain chemicals and cocaine is definitely one of them. It affects various neurotransmitters for various areas of the brain, such as dopamine for the NAcc (nucleus accumbens) and various pathways (i.e. mesolimbic dopamine pathway). In addition to activating more receptors and increasing the release of dopamine, it further enhances its effect by preventing some of the dopamine from being removed. All of this is simplified tremendously so there are many parts of the explanation lacking as they would require more in-depth discussion.
But to end, unlike pot, cocaine can produce not only the psychological addiction but a strong physical one too due to how it operates physiologically in the human body. When one attempts to quit, the withdrawl symptoms hit hard. I say this not from personal experience but from what I've learned in pharmacology, neuroscience, etc... .
