Which is really cool and is only a few miles away!. I've been looking at courses which I can do (only a select few). My dream job is helping people and have wanted to go into the police force. But I've been thinking and not sure if I want to put my life on the line each day, even though its a dream for me to do!. I would like to work in medicine otherwise. And been thinking about a course which afterwards completion (about 3years) I can go into nursing, paramedic, physiotherapy, old people carer ect. Or I can go into higher education (university) and study to become a doctor or a Physchologist (which I want to do). But the problem is, it can take on average 4-8 years to graduate which isn't counting the lower education which im going into after summer break. My careers advisor says im more than capable to do this, but im not sure wether I want to study for that long.
advice?.

You should follow your dreams and if you go for it you can always decide to drop out if you feel like its taking you too long to achieve it but if it really is ur dream it wont bother you that much to study that long. In uganda they spend 18 years in secondary school. In fact by the time they get to college they are nearly thirty and they start studying as young as us. You should go for it

It may seem like a long time to study but once you find the area you like, it's actually fun to study and learn. I'm in third-year university and the areas I'm in and to the prereqs for are the ones I love and am good at. It is a long time no question there but you learn what you love.
Regarding things such as nursing, you can either go to a community college and get a diploma for that or you can go the route that gives you more pay, higher status in the medical field and even if you change your mind, you have knowledge of other options: get a BSc or HBSc then get a Master's in Nursing. With this you can teach nursing or you can practice it (may have to add on R.N. also).
In other words, longer education tends to lead to higher-paying, more interesting jobs. If I'm correctly decyphering what you wrote, you want to be a psychologist. If that's what you want, then go for it. You may find, which many find, that while you're in university, there's other area(s) you like and are good in.
