Best way to meet new girls :)

You see in movies guys going ip to the girls giving them a pick up line and bam there in a realitonship. I've never from any mates this working in real life.
Here's what I wanna know! Any1 actually picked up a girly by using a pick-up line? And, how would you reccomend greeting a girl that have caught your eye?

Me and my brothers used to have competitions to see who could get the most hook-ups or numbers in one night... Slightly degrading, i know, but its what we did... still do sometimes.
What I find works is you ahve to be confident in yourself.
My usual procedure is finding a girl, makiing eye contact with her, no matter the distance.
Winking slightly, grinning wickedly, cliche(with that dash over the e) but meh.
Then kind of just hit it off from there... xD

Always some good fun.
Also walking around the shops with my little sister (she's 10) or going for a run with the family dog. xD
those seem to work well too.
