No. But taking a sport is very good exercise. Going to sports practice keeps you out of trouble too.

Not at all. Popularity is defined by what you do in and out of school, and how you achieve those results. Being popular shouldn't be your main focus in high-school.

I think the general answer here is no, and that's good, but unfortunately at my school (I go to a private school in Perth Australia) sport is compulsory, and my school has a tendancy to make kind and friendly people into arrogant pricks who can't control their mouth and actions. At this school as i said the sport is compulsory and if you are in the "c" grade or below for your sport and year then you are seen as pathetic and weak, a primitive system of survival of the... sportiest? Yes it is illogical; not everybody can be in the "a" grade, but at my school if you are not best friends with the "coolest" kid at school (the sportiest) then you're nobody.

I say this because if you go to an arrogant asshole producing school like mine, then your best bet at being cool is to play a sport, get good at it, then become another primitive wilder-beast that I hate; otherwise purposely get into the "b" grade like I have done and do not talk about it.

No this is not a joke; one of the highest valued things at my school is sport"

Not at all. Popularity is based on who you are and who you choose to surround yourself with.
If you choose to hang out with the druggies and crowds like that, you're not going to be very popular; or you'll be known for all the wrong reasons.
Don't try to be someone you're not just to fit in, popularity doesn't matter. Once you're out of high school/college, cliques don't exist anymore.

A very good way to interect with people from your future school/high school would be like soaring sky said, join some clubs if you are already interested in sports; perhaps you won't be with the "cool' people, but you will definitely make some good friends which can be valuable if you are changing school like I did.

Of course not. If you really think that just because you are playing sports you are automatically going to be popular.. You are mistaking. Sure, in movies the jocks are always the popular guys, but the 'nerds' always end up getting the nice looking girl :P
