Mkay, so I go to a private school for really smart people. Since they "expect a lot out of us", they give us a shitload of homework. I (one who abhors homework) spend my homework time doing fun stuff: video games, playing basketball, etc. Now the consequences of my actions are upon me. I have a lot of late homework to turn in and I cannot seem to focus at the tasks at hand.

In other words..HELP ME PWEASE!!

Go somewhere else. I have exactly the same problem as you do. I am literally unable to get anything accomplished in my room, I have to go somewhere else. The library is most people's best bet. A number of my teachers have told me that they would stay after school and do their work in an empty classroom, just because the environment of the classroom is so conducive to doing work. I'm thinking about looking into that as well because even libraries have distractions like computers and other people doing stuff. Just find somewhere that works for you that doesn't have a lot of crap to sidetrack you.

Also, plan out your work. This semester I've started rigidly scheduling all of my assignments, readings, and studying and assigning a certain amount of time I'll allow myself to complete each thing. It's working very well. Having an exact deadline definitely provides incentive and pressure to get things done.

I like to play computer games, chat online and such, and so to stop me from procrastinating for hours on end, either I study at university campus in the library or at home. At home, unless I need the Internet, I unplug it (we have wired only although my laptop does have a wifi catcher) and study either in my room or another room. I write myself a schedule, mostly on my phone but sometimes on paper for important things, and I think how long it would take. I give myself extra time for whatever it is.

After I'm done, if I want to go play, I think to myself something my father asked me, although I have finished my work, is it at the best of my abilities? So I re-read, edit and so forth. Despite being in 3rd year university, I still tell my parents what I have for homework and also write it down on a sticky note on the fridge, that way even if I do down for a snack or drink, it's glaring at me in the face and my parents know what I have to complete. Once each task is done, I have a short break of 5-10 minutes, scratch it off, stretch out, etc... .

My motivation is 3 things:
1) I want high marks for grad. school.
2) I know if I slack off and get a piss poor mark, the only one to blame is myself and I'll know I'll feel like crap.
3) Generally, the topics I'm studying (i.e. neurophysiology at a cellular level, statistics, etc...) I'm very interested in, and so some of the homework doesn't feel like a task to me, it seems fun. Sadly, some courses I don't care for that much, so this doesn't always happen  .

This is good advice!
