Well, the Left Wing and the Right Wing have not had a good debate for a while now. So I though I would instigate one and see how things roll. Now, many of us feel very strongly about one side or the other. So I will ask that you keep your debates clean, and try to back up your arguments.
Now, not only do I want to hear from democrats and republicans, but from green party supporters, communist and socialist supporters. Independents, and other grass roots parties as well.
To begin I'm a democrat by default, that doesn't mean however that I support everything the democrats put forward. I think they have been a little to....how you say....timid in these past few years. They have let the republican party take hold of this world. Now I must give props to the republican party, they worked very hard to achieve there grasp on society. I suppose If I was a millionaire or owned a large estate this would be good news to me, but I'm rather on the poor side, independently living in a liberal and environmentally savvy town. To be frank, the republican theocracy that is America...pisses me off. I think that, if we are to gain back a good global reputation, and if we are to make changes to the budget and economy, we need to change the majority of the house democratic. Republican majority has proved more bad then good. Now, I'm not ignoring the improvements, but nor am I ignoring the faults. There is work to be done.
Now, for those anti-bush folk running about, let me just say, though I don't support him, i realize that he is but one man representing a larger, more corrupt government. Its not all his fault that our country is in the shape its in. And I don't mean economically or globally *because that is a conglomerated effort of the people* but I mean....this country is divided. Its divided on immigration, racism, the wars and the tragedies. Terrorism and crime and everything. We cant seem to get along. And I think there should be something done about that.
Any ways, now, i want to see a damn good debate come of this. Not that I want to see blood *but I do* just be sure to express yourself as best you can, I want to hear your opinion!

mmm where do i stand, on this, i dunno! well i am Irish so this will prob be the only post i make in refernce to this, cause i support an Irish party which has a populist ideology, and doesnt really compare to any one party in the USA system, rather though to individuals, like Bush's 2000 campaign can be called a sort of populist one.
ok i do watch the American politics as does most of the world, and i would be more pro Democrat. i can not abide Bush. but i think this is where i will end it cause i dont live and experience his administrations policies first hand so i really am not someone to pass judgement, so this is where i shut up before i am told to!:P

Right now i'm conservative (blue)
because the Liberals in canada have become severely corrupt, lazy and were running Canada into the ground
Harpers fixing there fuck ups
and so far hes doing a REALLY good job
I'm very happy I voted for him
and i'm extatic that for the first time in 12yrs the conservatives won
hes even trying to fix our elections every 4yrs instead of whenever you want within 5yrs like the liberals had
he brought in the federal accountability act
lowering the GST
cracking down on crime
Increasing the budget to our military equipment thats become so outdated its as dangerous as the enemy
Hes working on shortening the rediclous wait times in the ER room
etc...

Oh dear, another debate where I'm all alone in the little liberal group 0: Why should we only have two major parties? Why not comepletely change the electoral system to allow more parties to become involved. Maybe a certian percentage of the government would be made up of representatives forma certian party based upon the percentage of votes said party revieved. That way we would have more ideas circulating around the government, and they would actually be considered.

I don't really follow the colours, but I will be voting liberal when I can. Thats orange I think, I dunno.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the idea of government that Popo suggested, isn't that the format that Nazi Germany used?
Its extreemly fair and gives the small partys a chance, but it doesn't work.

I don't think your alone in the little Liberal group. You will be surprised to find that there is a very large VirtualTeen Liberal group. Teeming with very outspoken individuals. I'm not a full blown Liberal myself, I'm more of an Independent with a slight Democratic feel. I certainly support the Democratic Party over the Republican Party. But I believe that whoever the people vote for should get the job. That's why I'm for doing away with the Electoral College. Al Gore won the 2000 presidential election, but George Bush got more Electoral votes.....That my friends is a crock of bullshit and you know it! It should be up to Popular Vote and nothing less! It is a better way of representing the people, and after all, is that not what this democratic government is all about. Representing the peoples needs and wants as best and sufficient as you can?
To a different point, one that needs to be addressed I think. Should there be more parties to choose from during midterms and the presidential election? The answer, of course, I think we can all agree, is yes. However this is nothing that our government can achieve by there lonely little selves. No! This is all up to the people. If you vote republican, then don't expect anyone but a republican leader to come out on top. If you vote democrat, and the majority of your peers as well vote democrat, is it not obvious that the outcome of this will be democrat? If you want a wider array of political ideas surging in the house, then YOU and YOURS must vote for different political opinions do you see? Its all up to the people to vote in who runs us. If you are angry at who is president, you have the power to change who is president. You should be angry at yourself for not doing anything about it. Of course, at this moment, most of us on VT are minors. So our power is limited, but many of us will get the chance to vote in the presidential election of 2008 in the US. You can make a difference. You must only try.
that is alll.

Yea if you want to make a diffrence then you have to speak up
I got my family to vote conservative
Usually they go liberal
I'm happy with harper but i admit there are sum issues that concern me
the Koyoto Accord and the fact that when Paul was leader Canada was basically its leader and now harper wants it scrapped
and although i'm not gay i am proud that gay marrige is legal in Canada
were a free country where everyone is treated and seen as equals
so having same sex marriage legal is important
and harper wants that scraped
So although I am happy with allot that hes done there are some serious issues that concern me
I still know i made the right decision
...lesser of two evils
and in an election that was as close as our last one
every vote counted
If the government were to colapse tommorow though i'd go NDP
there fisically inept..but the chances of them even getting a minority is pathedically small
they'd just get a lil more power and say in parlament with the next government
the NDP really cares about the enviroment, public health care, helping teens with higher education, etc...

I liberal/ (Socialist), I support liberalism more.
I actually don't support a party for I can't find one which fills all my political preferences.
For the Liberal democrats:
Have chosen Menzies Campbell who is old, (too old)- but that does not matter too much.
But I would preferred a system where there was no immigration controls so everyone from the poor countries could share the wealth of the UK - but that would never happen... and I think the Liberal democrats believe in controls but no to tight.
But on the plus point they believe in federalism.
Socialist party of England and Wales:
Believe in the break up of England and Wales with Scotland- and it be sad to see the country broken up- when federalism can sort that out.
Also they are a bit weird policies.
On the plus have hard tactics on BNP.

Yeah but not in the US, Red = Republicans which are more right wing and Blue = Democrats which are more left?
Thats what I thought anyway, not huge on foreign politics.
This is why I don't like colours asigned with politics, just use left or right, it doesn't give an accurate measure, but neither does colours.

I'm normally on the republican side of things. But since Bush is president I'm now more conservative. Depending on who runs in the elections next year I will most likely change.

I think just remove the colours, if you don't know about left and right wing politics, then you probably shouldn't be in a debate about it anyway :P

I'm British, am I allowed to say something? I seem to be the only communist here (which is red but fuck the colour, it's not important) and I guess you could describe me as "extremist" but I just believe in fairness for everyone. No one bring up my comments on the smoking thread saying "that's not fair" because I'm not talking about that. With communism everyone has a job and there are much less barriers seperating people.

Dude there are alot of left wingers on this site, me for one. I am far from extreemist, more moderate left, but some of the stuff I agree with is more right. I'm a fellow brit, and will be voting Lib Dem when I turn voting age.
