I think the vt General Hospital is pretty pointless when the only advice anyone can really give is go see a doctor, because no one is educated in that area. Having a health professional would really be helpful for when people are experiencing a number of symptoms but aren't sure whether it's anything to worry about.

I know there are also lots of people who give out great advice in the Psychiatric Ward, but maybe having real counsellors would be a good idea too, in helping people cope and overcome there issues more effectively.

It would be Beneficial
but also against the rules
to be a doctor or a counsellor chances are your gonna be older than 19
which means you can join vt

Yes its a good idea... but where would you get them from
1) the age limit is only at 19 to join here (and it is very unlikly that you will find a professional that is under 19)
2) How would the VT staff actualy know that the medic (and others...) actualy know that they know what they know about specific subjects. (I know that was confusing sorry but i dont know another way of putting it lol)

I think that its a good idea but i dont know how it would work. Sorry!

I forgot about the whole age thing..maybe there could be an exception?

I don't know how they'd find them..but they have them on Govteen so it can't be too hard to find them right?

True so they could ask the Govteen ones if they would be on here (seen as GovTeen and VirtualTeen are family lol)

Don't really see a point to having them, to be honest. If the people who posted in there knew something was immediately wrong, they'd go to the doctors. But, they post here first for our opinions, as it could be something similar to what we may have experienced.

The same with the Psychiatric Ward Section. Sometimes people want to get their emotions out in the open, but don't want want to go see a psychiatrist for it. So, they come here for help.

Well, i do see a point to having it actually..if someone posts a thread about something, and another member has had it before, they can give advice. Calums right about the age part as well.

I agree that most of the posts tell people to go to the doctors, but some threads that are posted there ask for our opinion before they go to the doctors.

You've got the age limit, the proof of being a professional, plus it would be allot of pressure on the few 'specialists' because something tells me we couldn't find very many that are under 19.

Even if there were "specialists" the advice in many cases would still be to go and see the doctor because you cant do a proper diagnosis on the basis of a forum post, so what would it achieve?

The General Hospital is still useful because it allows people to compare notes based on their own experience or knowledge of things that might have affected family and friends.

Oh yea
i shouldve said this before
we do have several well educated Students who know what there chatting
they're probably the closest things to specialists were gonna get on vt
its very hard to make internet diagnostics which is why the advice is often go to the doctor
but in some of the cases people may know whats wrong and others whove possibly been through it or know alot about it can offer help

The thing is even the GovTeen medics are hardly ever active.

Bad idea.

The reason that most people say 'go see a doctor' is because thats the obvious thing to do.

I'm pretty sure this site is a teen help site, not a site where you seek professional medical help.

Even if there were medics, they'd have to find time in their schedule to help, they'd have to be cleared, and their posts couldn't be taken as advice, only as educational information - they don't want to ruin their reputation, nor hurt anyone!

It's a good idea, since GovTeen has had it, but I think that it won't happen.

And yes, Cloud, GovTeen and VT were "connected", thru the GovTeen Network, at a point. Now, they are related, but pretty much completely separate from each other.

The idea all in all is good but implementing is another, for one it would change the basic ''essence'' of VT, the entire teens giving advice to teens, even if it was just an exception for one area.

We have some very well informed members, we even had a active member once who was studying to be a doctor..
