Why do you think we have laws and why are they made?
What is the point of them in your opinion?

Laws are made to protect the people of a country. A lot of them are annoying though, such as crazy slow speed limits, some EPA laws, etc.

without rules and laws our world would go into utter chaos. People would be killing one another, there would be a hell of alot of stealing. and there would be ALOT of MAJOR accidents.

Why do I think we have laws made? Well to protect life and property, mainly and maintain peace and order in a country. And I think that's the point in them.. it's practically the same question.
I agree with most laws on the books. Yeah it sucks that we're forced to do some things in life such as go to school for a number of years, pay taxes, speed limits, etc by law. But they're there for our own good. Everyone hates school as a kid, but if they got their own way, most of them would probably be illiterate and they'd certainly have no qualifcations.

Question is based on false grounds, in that we do have laws.

Well if that is why we have laws, why do people feel the need to break them???

Laws will and forever be flawed. There is no way to stop juveniles from doing something illegal... like say drugs? Anyways. Laws are meant to maintain order throughout society so we are not plunged into chaos. In other words, the man is just trying to put you down.
Laws will always be here. As far back as 1900 BC, I think, we had laws. In ancient Babylon the Code of Ur-Nammu was created. I believe I may not be correct on that but look it up. Anyway. It was a basic code pretty much stating no stealing, killing, murdering, etc.
It did manage to maintain, probably because it was what you did will happen to you. Such as when say... Motormouth kills Mercury Motormouth will die as well. So it is a lose lose situation so whats the point?
My opinion. We need laws, we'll always have laws. They will just always be flawed. ^_^

laws are the basis of civilised society, without laws there would be chaos. what a dumb question to ask.

If their wasn't laws-
People would get away with rape
Stealing and robbing would be awwwright!
Me and Francisco Escalero could get married
Killing is awwwwright!
Necrophilia in public is awwwright!
Isn't anarchy great? No.

We make up rules with the idea of keeping the peace and promoting safety within our society

That wasn't the point I was trying to make...
The point I was trying to make is if there was a common understanding that the reason we have rules is to protect everyone and everything, provide order, etc. then why do people do the complete opposite?
In essence, creating a state of anarchy (since that's the opposite of making laws) is what happens and we all know that anarchy is not the way to go, so why do people want to create anarchy...i confused myself a bit while rambling in this paragraph but I think it still makes sense...i hope lol

As far as I know.. nobody breaks the laws with the intention of breaking the law. For example, they'll steal money out of a bank for greed. They'll murder someone out of hatred or passion, they'll rape someone because they want power over them (rape isn't actually always about a sexual urge needing to be fulfilled).
And yeah, some people don't like the laws that are in place, so they'll break them to suit themselves. Especially drug or speeding laws.
There's no such thing as a free country per se. I mean, there's liberalised countries (what you'd call the West), but you'd need total anarchy and absolutely no laws to have real freedom - which is what people would like, but what people wouldn't like is the lack of protection and security that would come with that. They'd have nobody to run to if their house got robbed or their family was killed, as such society would have no Police or anything like that.

I think laws are to (try) stop things like murder, rape, theft and other naughty things like so, also to keep order, peace, health and safety and keep people civilised (don't know if civilised is the word I'm looking for), although there are a lot of examples of this not working.

Thats not really true. Especially teens and college people, they rebel and stupidly do stuff they shouldn't be doing just because they shouldn't do it.
