View Full Version : Girl Strangles Herself To Death Dancing to Lady Gaga

A schoolgirl in the UK accidentally hanged herself with a dressing gown cord while dancing in her bedroom to Lady Gaga.

Megan Williams, 10, from Manchester in north-west England, put the cord around her neck as she danced around the room, the Daily Mail newspaper reports.

The cord, which had been tied in a loop on a bunk bed, tightened and eventually strangled Megan to death as she struggled to escape.

An inquest heard Megan's sister had tied the dressing gown cord to the bunk bed so she could put her leg into the loop and pull herself up.

The girl's mother, Lisa Williams, told the inquest she had heard her daughter dancing through the floorboards from upstairs before the accident.

Megan's 15-year-old brother raised the alarm after discovering his sister's body.

"I remember thinking he (her son) was joking and waiting for him to change then I realised something wasn't right," the Daily Mail quoted Mrs Williams as telling the inquest.

Mrs Williams said she had found her daughter stilled dressed in her school uniform with blue lips and the cord around her neck.

The mother desperately tried to perform CPR on Megan as she waited for paramedics to arrive.

Megan was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but her life support machine was turned off the next day.

Its kinda funny that everyone is blaming Gaga. xD But come on, it could have happened with any music :P But still... how stupid do you have to be to tie something around your neck, and prance around with it tied to somewhere else... Dont kids know this by 10 years?

Good Lord, that's terrible... I feel so sad for her family. Only 10 years old. :(

I wonder how Gaga herself feels about it...

Her parents shouldn't have allowed her to tie something to her bunk bed in the first place, with children you're supposed to be extremely careful. A ladder would suffice! I feel so horrible for her family, none the less.. I lost my little brother 10 years ago in June; although from completely different reasons. This is still absolutely horrible ):

Oh dear, I feel so sorry for her family. Won't be a pleasant life for them for a while.

I do hope that GaGa makes a statement about it. Never mind, she's too far up her own arse to care.

Shouldn't it be common sense not to tie something around your neck and then tie it to something else. There is no way you can blame this on Lady Gaga.

why should she have to do anything
it was the kids fault for tieing loops around her neck

I don't know how many of those posts blaming lady Gaga were jokes, but it would be really dumb if you actually blame her for it. And I wouldn't be surprised a bunch of people do take it serious. -_-
She could of been listening to the Barnie theme song, >.>

What I do wonder, is what motivated the girl to put something around her heck, 10 year old girls aren't exactly creative, they COPY everything. Bet anything, it was Paparazzi, and the idea came from the MVAs

Sad that she died, funny how everyone blame Gaga. That girl is a bit stupid though. Media do do that, mentioning names, then people blame her. :/

If I can recall a case involving Ozzy Osbourne? Two teens committed suicide listening to his song "Suicide Solution". The parents sued him and he won. Why? Because the artist has no liability held on them for their listener's actions. People are only blaming GaGa because they're looking to up a shit storm and they have it seems.

You guys are fucktards if your saying it's Lady Gaga's fault.
Oh, she must of made some subliminal message to make someone accidentally hang them self while listening to Poker Face!
Why would she have to make a statement? It's not her problem and it's not her fault. It's like when people blamed Marilyn Manson for school shootings.
If it was some random band it probably wouldn't matter though. But since it's Lady Gaga, oh shit! Everyone has to go batshit crazy.

She didn't do anything. The girl killed herself. If someone killed theirself in this manner, I wouldn't make a statement. I'd just be like wow people need to be more careful.

Thats what I thought when I read the article.

It's still possible that Lady G's songs are STACKED with subliminal messages, it would explain why her "electropop" music is so addictive and why so many people are hooked on her. You never know whats really in that distorted music, and backmasking too...
BTW "Poker her face"
I know that has nothing to do with anything here, but I just wanted to point it out.

GaGa's very creative with her music and performances, but I think she should be more careful about the message she sends to younger kids. It seems like she thinks the ONLY people who like her are her target audience, teens, young adults... But she has a big influence on younger people as well.

No she shouldn't. She didn't choose for her song to be the one played while this girl killed herself. I think you and others want to her to appologize because you need someone to blame for a death. The fact is the girl was unlucky and she died by accident.

But you're not Lady Gaga. Judging from her public image, she's the kind of person who would probably at least pay respects on her twitter or blog.

But you really can't expect her to, the music the girl was dancing to doesn't matter, the fact is that she died. It's not an article boasting about Lady Gaga being a homicidal musician who screams death from the clouds and makes little girls strangle themselves.

Who said I was lady gaga?. All I'm saying that is an accident, and no one caused the girl to die. Lady GaGa was thousands of miles away from this girl. She in no way is involved. I mean you could even assume that Nsync or the back street boys may even have caused some to kill themselves.

I know. But you said that if it were YOU, you wouldn't make a statement. I was just pointing out that Lady Gaga seems the sort of person who WOULD make a statement. I've always said it : when I die, I want my family to throw a huge party and invite the whole block. Why mourn something that is bound to happen one day anyway?

I can guarantee that if this were another lonely old man killed by his pet tiger while giving a favor to a local schoolboy, or a skinny dude killed by his morbidly obese girlfriend who sat on him, you'd have a completely different mindset and you'd be all pissing your pants laughing.

Well thats not fair. Call me an idiot, but for all we know, it was caught around her neck. Don't ask how, crazy stuff like that happens sometimes, especially if the little girl was Lady Gaga dancing - crazy stuff happens when you dance like her, if her performances are anything to go by.

So because we don't hold children with the same standards as adults we're douches. Yea she probably should have known better to do that but guess what she didn't and excuse me for not laughing when a child accidentally hangs herself, I didn't laugh when I found out a grown woman did the same thing while belly dancing. It's not about being a douche or being a hypocrite maybe it's about not laughing at the death of a kid that barely had a chance to live. Also you comparing a child hanging herself to an adult getting sat on by his girlfriend isn't a great analogy because for one there was probably a history of domestic violence with them two yet he still stayed with her and also he's a grown ass man who's probably more mature than a 10 year old and can actually think about the consequences of his actions(even though he probably didn't see that happen) where a 10 year old girl is simply doing what she saw on tv and probably doesn't realize how stupid of a thing it was. Also most of the responses in the other thread(including mine) were pointed at the woman that did it and not the husband. So excuse me for not laughing at the death of little girl.

I want to just reverse EVERYTHING you typed so it makes sense but that would take too long so I'll just say:

We aren't hypocrites for feeling sorry for a family who just lost a child, while you're seemingly all giggly about it. Let's put you in their shoes and see if you can laugh about it, hey?

Hilarious. I lost my sister when she was 10 as well, and I can tell you that her brother is going to have the image of her on the ground, with her lips and face all blue, stuck in his head for years to come. I don't care if people are making jokes about Lady Gaga, the actual situation here isn't funny.

And calling people hypocrites for not laughing is stupid. People laughing at other deaths doesn't really relate to this one, anyway. The fact is, someone said that this isn't funny and you went off on them for it. It's a silly thing to argue about.

You can say that the circumstances seem a little comical to you, but to act like respect for a human life is a bad thing is going a little too far.

You can't compare the deaths simply because the only thing they have in common is that they died even with the chewing gum guy. The other two happen to be things done by mature adults that would no better than to put themselves in the situation and died because they didn't, however this story is about a little girl doing exactly what kids do which is copying what she saw on tv and yea she probably should have known better but odds are if she did she wouldn't care any way because she's a child. So like I said before you can't compare those because the only thing they have in common are that someone died.

So basically if a 20 or 30 year old guy dies in a hilarious accident it'll still be funny for you BUT if its a 10 year old kid who put the cord, herself knowingly, around her own neck and strangled herself with dancing, while listening to incredibly bad pop music, it is not hilarious because its a ''child''

So explain if the question is ''sympathy'' for the ''victim'' and their family.. Why doesn't the 20, 30 or 40 year old guys, who got squashed by his fat wife, family deserve that same degree of sympathy & in this case conservatism

Maybe because there's a line between good humor and bad taste. It's ok to poke fun at people that DO know better than to do things like that but if it's someone like a child or a mentally handicapped person then it's in bad taste. Kids have hung themselves before by accident and most likely it'll happen again.

And how 'bout you, righter of wrongs. I noticed that you're the one who created the topic on the guy who got flattened by his girlfriend and got killed as a result. Where were you when everyone was cracking more or less funny jokes on the subject? Don't you think the man in question had a family and is equally deserving of sympathy? Why don't you go dispense some righteous indignation over there?

If you're going to pop parties then at least have some consistency and pop them IN EVERY TOPIC. Christ.

Oh really? Care to elaborate or you're throwing this out in the hopes I'll buy it and stfu?

An expansive argument by an equally expansive mind.

That's a gigantic paragraph.

You did have this to say about a student killed by chewing chemical gum that unfortunately exploded in his face though :

Consistency please...

Death is stupid to mourn. An eventuality is stupid to regret. We might as well attempt to get some humor out of it. The faster you all realize this, the better. When I die, I want you all to laugh your asses off about how much of a dumbass death I died if applicable. If not, find a reason to have fun. Throw a party. Living in the past is folly.

there is no need for you to defend yourself on my account. you are right, i do remember posting the topic about the woman who murdered her boyfriend by sitting on him. i haven't checked on that thread again since posting it so i can't comment on what has been posted in there. but i do standby my comments regarding your first post in this thread. but again, don't feel like you need to defend yourself on my account, especially since you are apparently so much older and wiser and i'm so young.

One reason why it is't funny.

It is a child. Maybe she should of known better, but she didn't. Adults do know better, but they are just idiots - That's irrelevant anyways.

I posted one. And it said what I would have said.

This is the internet. Nothing is to be taken seriously.

This is also a forum with rules that should be followed. Not anything worth discussing, so let's stay on topic.

I've almost forgotten what the topic was :S

It's quite a sad story seeing as the girl was so young. I'd just like to know why she had the cord around her neck... was she trying to recreate LG's infamous performance or was she just acting like a superstar?

Either way, it proves that kids DO copy what they see their role models do, and the role models should probably be more careful. Which is hard for them... I mean, they live in te public eye, trying to live their lives, surrounded by all their fans... it's a tough life. A lot of them just put on a brave face...

I bet that if the title of this thread was "Girl Strangles Herself To Death Dancing", this whole discussion wouldn't be so big.

And btw, I don't care if it is a child or a 200 year old mutant, someone died, and that is just not funny.

exactly, person above my post who's username I can't be bothered looking up.

I think we should calm this stupid little debate about weather or not it's funny that a little girl died or not and get back to the subject. Unfortunatley I can't think of anything to say about the matter, so I would love some help?
