For about 8 months my left knee has been a bit 'dodgy' as in, sometimes when i stand up i get a stabbing pain in it, and it is always clicking and sometimes sometimes when i walk, it kinda gives way a bit, and i trip over...
my personal G.P. said there is probs nothing wrong with it but was he right??

i had that but my knee caps grew too high and was onl found after dislocation, and a CT scan. :S
Go to an orthopedic doctor. :) I went to my GP for years as I was constanlty doing that, and they said its due to grwoing. well obviously it wasn't growing pains :P
had surgery on one knee already and am due it on the other one this summer...
good luck, i hope its nothign too serious

Seriously, everyone grows so why doesnt everyone get growing pains? because they are RARE. I believe that doctors just cant be bothered doing a proper diagnosis on what they consider a minor problem, their solution: growing pains. do nothing, get paid, i think you really need a second opinion. I had a similar problem, that lasted about 8 months same as you a few years ago.
I think you might of damaged the ligament or maybe even something more serious. Try and a get a knee support strap, its like having it taped, it just supports and helps the knee, but you need to worry about it coming untaped and getting retaped, and you can just slip it on and off whenever required
