I have an iPhone, and i cant have it out in school. Does this piss anyone else off? Especially when the the teachers let us listen to our ipods in class. i can't because my iPhone IS my iPod, i have no reason to have a separate ipod, other than for school.
I hate this policy, how about you? if you were allowed to use your phone in school, wold you abuse the privilage, or just use apps and shit? :phone2:
We aren't allowed to use them outside, either!

I don't get pissed off because it's the rule...? I don't know why you really need to use a phone, or iPod at school. I hate when people whine about it.
Otherwise, I wouldn't use it. :P

My teachers don't really care, as long as you keep it on vibrate or something. Nobody gets calls in class so that's not an issue, and if you aren't patient enough to wait until the end of class to respond to texts (or sly enough to text without being caught (I'm rather good at this)) then you deserve to have your phone taken from you.

I wouldn't even allow Ipods, let alone cell phones in my class if I were a teacher. When I went to school, anything electronic wasn't allowed. I always understood it. Teachers have to teach and its distracting for them to see a person texting or having their music up loud. I totally understand this rule.

You're at school to learn, not use your cellphone or iPod. It's annoying when you have to sit near someone who's texting, playing games or listening to music that's too loud because it is a distraction. At my college, the instructors have the right to drop you from your class if you so much as text during a lab or lecture without leaving the room.
I don't mind the use of iPods during a test, but anything else I'm not a fan of.

I think iPod's should be allowed at least. I talk to my teachers now and try to get them to let me use mine in class, I only listen to jazz and orchestra style music though. I can concentrate loads better with it.

At my old school we could use our ipods/phones to listen to music. *rolls eyes* like people would be doing that... *oh im just changing me song* *types on numberpad* :p
I dont think they have to be used at school. I know most the time if i got a text it was from someone at school... Just wait for a break... :)

At my school phones weren't even allowed on the campus.
If I didn't have my phone on me with my emergency contact info my mom wouldn't have been at the hospital with me. I think that's reason enough to have them allowed at school.

Your 13 and your teachers let you use your Ipods in class? Man I am sort of glad and disappointed at the same time I didn't go to your school, I didn't get to use an Mp3 player untill I was in Year 12(17 years).
I know the cellphone policy can seem ridiculous but at the same time it is for the safety of students and to improve the learning of students. It prevents text bullying, cellphones going off in class and they school being held responsible if a cellphone gets stolen.

If your found using your fone over here at school, you will get it confiscated, and mostly like your parents will have to come in for it, or you may get it back at the end of the day.
That has happened to me sometimes.
It's much different in college, u can have your fone out in lessons without worrying etc.

Our school don't allow phones. But they do allow ipods :P.
But, probably 90% of people use there phone during the day for texting, and calling people at lunch. I can count my self as one of them!!

We're not allowed phones at school because lots of fights have been organised that way with students calling/texting their out-of-school friends for support, causing the fights to get out of control. Also people videoing fights.

I have seen cell phones used in school too much, and I'm sick of it. I don't have a cell phone and I'm glad. If I had distractions like cell phones during school hours, I don't know how I would learn anything. And the point of school is to learn, not play with your cell phones. Too many incidents have occurred where people (teachers and students) have been posted on the internet without their knowledge.

No.
Seeing as how I'm home schooled, I can use my iPod, but I only listen to soft songs. When I was still in the public school system, we were allowed to listen to our MP3 players or have a cellphone for emergencies just in case adults weren't there. We could listen to the MP3 players as long as the music wasn't too loud. There shouldn't be a problem with cellphones/mp3s since they are just harmless. But you are in school to learn, not play. If someone texts you or you want to listen to music, you can wait until your lunch break.

We can't have iPods, MP3 players, cell phones, pagers, or other electronic devices during school hours. Pretty much word for word from the handbook there :P. Everyone has their phone's with them though, and a lot of the teachers don't care if you have it, but don't want you using it. Sure, it pisses me off, but I see their point to it, too.

My school doesn't allow any electronic devices either...and I understand why...I keep my cell phone turned off and in my truck...a lot of people still have theirs in their pocket though. I think since they made the rule, the use of the phones in the school has gonep
They set the rule my sophomore(10th grade) year....before that we could have electronics...but they could only be used at lunch.....

There's no need for a phone or music during class. They're only a distraction upon you and others. However, if they do not disrupt the educational process, I don't see why they should not be allowed in school.

Well, at my school, electronics such as cell phones and ipods are not supposed to go into a classroom, but most teachers don't care as long as they are not out. However, we are allowed to use them in the hallways during passing periods and at lunch. I like that policy and I think it's pretty fair.
There are a few teachers willing to break the rules and let us use ipods when we are doing silent work, and many of them wouldn't know the difference between and ipod and a phone.

My school doesn't let us have phones or iPods in school unless its during an after school period or sporting event. But, most of the students have their phones in their pockets.
I like to have mine with me just in case there is an emergency and I need to call my mom or dad. I dont text with it during school though, unlike others.

Yes, but an iPhone, (and many other phones) have iPods built into them, and if you own one of these, there is no reason to buy a separate iPod. I don't have the privilege to listen to music, like everyone else does.

Oooo, such a rebel . Really, all you can do is learn to be patient. You sound more jealous and spiteful of us JUST because we get to use electronics. Good things come for those who wait, and you are no exception. Half of your life in on your iPhone...well, I don't know what to say. Sure, that's a good thing, but getting worked up on not being able to access it is childish.
Also, if I had an iPhone, I'd most certainly buy a separate iPod. Other may or may not agree on this though. I'd buy a separate iPod since iPHONE should be used for calls and the like, not music. Music on an iPhone is just extra flashy flash. Plus, the new iPods can hold more than an iPhone (the last I checked anyway), so why pick and choose?

It was a bit annoying in high-school with this policy but now I see why it'd have been great to have it in high-school. In university, when there's over 200 people in the room and when you pay (or parents pay) to go to it to study, especially when I'm in a class I like, it's a real nuisance when someone's phone goes off. If it's on vibrate I don't mind but when the ring volume is on, especially when it's loud, then it's a bother. One of my professors doesn't like cell phones going off (which I share with him), and whenever a phone goes off, he stops talking, calls out to have the person shut their phone off or leave the room.
Yes, but an iPhone, (and many other phones) have iPods built into them, and if you own one of these, there is no reason to buy a separate iPod. I don't have the privilege to listen to music, like everyone else does.
If listening to music is that big of a deal to you, then buy a cheap MP3 player (doesn't need to be an iPod) and use that for music in class. They're not even $200, maybe $100 or so for a cheap one so if it's that important, save up money (or if you already have) and go buy one.
If i was allowed to use my iPhone, you bet your fuckin ass I wuld be usinc Calendar, Notes, Calculator, Graphing Calculator, and all kinds of stuff. Half of my life is on that thing, and im not allowed to have half of my life in school!
Oh the drama. As nice as the iPhone may be, you go to school to learn, not to play with your iPhone. It's wonderful that there's a calculator in it but it doesn't matter because you won't be allowed to use such features on a test, quiz or exam, regardless of the type of phone. Not having half you're life in school because your phone cant be used? 50 years ago people didn't have anything anywhere near as close to an ipod or iphone, yet they were able to make it through school. You can do the same.
If I were a teacher, I'd probably have it so all phones are on vibrate and no ring, unless they become too much of a distraction then no phones allowed.

The phone policy at my school simply is, teachers are to confiscate any mobile phones/mp3's if they are seen used. Some are very easy going on the rule.
Your allowed to use your phone/mp3s at break times but not when your going from subject to subject. Some teachers allow mp3s in class though when she/he isn't speaking

no texting, listening to music, doing other classes' homework, reading something else, masturbating or otherwise not paying attention to the person who's caring enough about your shaky future to try to get a certain amount of information into your unique working brain cell.
seriously, if you want to do something else, then by all means go do it, but out of the classroom.

Why do you find texting in general "stupid"? I don't text in class because, y'know, I have better things to do, but I text outside of school. It's easier than calling someone up just to ask them something or tell them something.

Umm... If you're only going to use it for music in class then why not buy a case to cover up the back of it so it looks like an iPod touch.. Just don't let anyone close enough to see that it's an iPhone. The main giveaway is the back.
To answer your question- I don't, because I never ever use my phone at school, I only have it there in case of an emergency.

Why can have it on us but can not use it.
Using it for texting, calling, playing games, music and whatever else distracts others who are at school to learn. It's especially annoying when at university, one pays to attend classes on things I'm interested in but my attention to my dismay gets divided to whatever the person is doing. It may be fun for them if they don't care for the class but it's unfair to others, so the fair resolution is leave the class to play on it while those who want the education stay in the room.
Having it on one's person is fine for emergencies or to use to meet with friends after class. I have my schedule on my phone so when I'm unsure on the room number or if I have to meet someone, I can have a source to remind me but use it outside class.
Atonement
May 10th, 2010, 07:02 AM
In my school, phones are banned between first bell and last bell. Anyother time is allowed. In reality though, it depends on the teacher. And trust me, everyone knows which teachers allow texting and which don't. The health teacher is a phone Nazi, tries to purge the world of them. The computer teacher doesn't care if they're on your desk if you're not using it during a lesson. Its a common courtesy to cover for someone if their texting. We often use eachother to hide texting. Usually by texting behind a friend's back. And its not like I'm just casually texting in school, for about 70% of us I'd guess are texting our parental units.

I am double sided on this issue. I need to have a phone on me at all times because just in case my brother texts. Me and my brother are very close but he's away at college so in my perspective it is imperative that I be there for it. I have no shame in saying that if a teacher would try to take my phone away because I got a text I would kick and scream and bite and scratch and just slap a hoe till I got my phone back. Now if your just texting because you think the friend two rows ahead of you wants to know what you think about the teachers bald spot then you need your phone taken away.
Zeh Crazy
May 18th, 2010, 04:10 PM
I think phones should be allowed. I know plenty of people who get their work done and aren't distracted by them. In my school, we have to pay to use the office phone, when we have cellphones and we could make a quick call to a parent for free. Especially if the call is school related. We should focus more on bigger things than something as trivial as using a cellphone. What about bullying and stealing? Or smoking cigs in the bathroom? Focus on those things instead of focusing on something that's not really bothering another student...

If they were allowed nobody would learn anything because they'd be too busy texting, IMing, etc. and abusing the privilege. School is for learning. Not for virtual socializing.
I do agree that they should be allowed in class for emergencies and such but not to constantly be used. (Although Im constantly texting in class. XD Least having the risk of being caught makes me take my time and do some work lol)

If you make texting so obvious that you get caught, then you shouldn't even deserve to texting at all. Some teachers at my school don't mind, as long as you do your work then its alright.
