My xbox is screwed

my xbox isnt working.

whenever i put a disc in it reads for aound 5-6 seconds then it says open tray, and no matter what disc i try it doesnt work.
i have tried turning it on and of.

has this happened to anyone? and if so, do you know how to fix it?

Yep. That has happened to me twice.
Your Xbox is broke, my friend. The laser to read the disc isn't working right....
So.. I don't know if its a different number in Australia, but you need to call Xbox Cutomer Support, or register your console to be shipped online.

It is definatley the laser because it doesnt know a disc is in there. Just buy new laser and have a professional install. Unless you can do it your self... but be careful one little smidge and its gone forever

Anyways. Your Xbox is screwed. It's the laser most likely, and unlike what other people recommend, don't fix it yourself. If you remove the faceplate on the Xbox, you'll see a little sticker. That sticker needs to stay on there. If it gets removed, you can no longer send in your Xbox 360 to Microsoft...EVER! It's there to prevent modding Xbox's. If you have warranty, which I'm not sure if you do or don't, send it in to Microsoft and they'll fix it for free.
If your warranty has expired, it will cost about $100 (US currency). A little cash to get it fixed is well worth it, because you get another 1 year warranty on it, and a free one month XBL card.

PS: I recommend you take off the faceplate, to see if there is a sticker there (if you bought it used or something)
