For me it's both. I cut/burn when something makes me angry or upset, but I also get random urges to do it even when things are going pretty well.

Well I usually do it at night so im probally do it when i have had a bad day and i wanna cope with it all.
However i sometimes do it because it is there i dont really have to be in a kinda mood :) xx
