so today on the today show haha, i was watching a report about a bunch of parents whos daughters were apparently trapped in a hotel in Los Angeles i think =/ not sure but anyway they were pleading obama to send troops to rescue the girls and one guy broke down and basically started yelling/begging/crying obama to send troops out there. and its been like 6 days since theyve been trapped and no help from obama.
but basically i think with all do respect that obama has many, many, many more people to worry about than about 12 girls. i mean after that quake in haiti and the situation in the middle east with the war i think 12 or so people cant really match up to thousands probably many, many more people that are in need of serious help. i mean ik obama cares about everyone in his country, but when there are so many other people to help, this comparatively, minor situation does not match up.
what do you guys think?
i mean sorry if that was a very stupid post, im only 13, and its just what i thought
it would be nice if i got some opinion, thanks :D

Don't expect a reply within 7 minutes in Rotw. I know I don't look here very often...
I think that Obama should actually make the girls more of a priority than the Haiti earthquake... After all the girls are 'trapped' in his country and the earthquake victims aren't in/or american...
Ok, after your country is in a relatively secure state then go help other, less-developed, countries. The country that he governs should definitely take priority though.

I agree with Ben, here.
The people in your country are top priority than people in a foreign land becuase, well, they're citizens of the US.

As you can se I'm in the Uk and I'm strongly against Brown giving money to another country when we are so fucked up it's ridiculous.

We're not that bad. We do still have something like the 5th or 6th largest economy, yano. The recession (if that's what you're talking about) doesn't mean we're helplessly "broke" by any means. It's an economic cycle, which we've had various times before.
While I don't believe in bending backwards to help other countries, you can hardly say we are/were bending backwards for Haiti or the 2004 Tsunami disaster, etc
To the thread anyway, assuming this is still going on, can't they send a S.W.A.T. unit to deal with the situation rather than actual military troops, as it is a domestic issue? Or do I have this wrong, because it's the first I've heard of it.

I think you're more or less right. It's not the President of the country's responsibility to solve every small problem at home. If the local authorities aren't doing everything they can, that's a problem that needs to be solved there. Not by Obama.
And don't apologize for your age. But I thought you were 14?

The problem with this point of view is that if there were a disaster of anywhere near this magnitude in America, the response would be massive and quick (well, assuming Bush-esque incompetency doesn't reign aka Katrina). But if it's between tens of thousands of dead and 6 girls, the humanitarian disaster takes precedence, citizenship aside.

If the local authorities can't do their job, then that's their problem. Obama has bigger issues to deal with here I think. Yes, the situation in Haiti is bad and it's good that we're doing our part, but there are many other things to think of. The parents are being a bunch of dimwits in thinking that Obama will just drop EVERYTHING and help them out. Now, if it were something bigger, like a terrorist and hostage situation, send the boys in. But for this? No, I don't think so.

Exactly why send the Military in, when the local police, fire department or the California National Guard to fix this.
And also, what girls I never heard this until now. And these girls that are trapped how did they get trapped, how did nothing get done in 6 days. Story sounds a little bit suspicious . And the guy crying for the army needs to shut the hell up.

I don't think it requires troops to remove girls from a hotel.
Bunch of whiners, if they are trapped, get the fire department. It doesn't take a few days to rescue people.
Also, your age has nothing to do with how smart your posts appear to be.

That's what all the 13 year olds tell themselves. :P
(So happy I got that in before you turned 14 )

I don't think it should be at the top of Obama's list either...if it should even be on it. The role of president is to look over the whole country.
The role of governor is to look over the state. In my opinion, if your neighborhood has been flooded, the governor should be getting their national guard, the police, whatever whatever to rescue people.
Seems like the only thing Obama can do is declare an emergency...I mean...it really doesn't take him to have to send national guard troops to rescue people.
Im not sure...but I don't think they should blame Obama on people not being rescued. That's just ridiculous.
Get Scharwzi to do something...

No, but we are giving money and other general aid (Food, water, clothing etc..). Why just not bother and let them deal with it?

I disagree, fair enough 6 girls isn't exactly the largest problem on the planet. But at least sort that out before sending help to another country.

well yes and no. its our job as the whole world to help each other, after all we are all humans, and we should be able to rely on each other and send help and receive help in return. however thats not always how our world works. sure its not the largest problem but this is like comparing apples and oranges, sure if there were 12 girls in haiti and thousands here tht needed help we wouldnt send help to haiti first, we would help our country because of the vast difference in numbers.
its everyones job to help those in need and when there are thousands of people in need elsewhere then we help them first

Is there were 12 girls in another country needing help I'd tell them to get fucked until our country was sorted.
I say help your country and citizens before any other countries.
