So on Friday my best friend told me he is moving far. I'm completely devastated because he is a one of a kind friend that can never be replaced.

Over the weekend i thought about and ended up writing a goodbye letter for him, but i am not sure when i should give it to him. He isn't moving for at least a month or two. I don't know if i should give it to him now, or before he leaves?

So when should I give it to him?

well, you are feeling bad already... try spending as much time with him as possible, and simply give him one day... could be even tomorrow, depends on how you are feeling...

I would probably give it to him as a parting gift. I think that this would be nice, because even as he is leaving to this new place, he can read a message from you. It would probably make him feel less lonely, as I assume he would be for a little bit.

Spend a lot of time with him during your last month with him.

Try to spend as much time as possible that you can with him. Also, does he have an e-mail address or possibly a Facebook/MySpace page? You could keep in contact that way, probably get his new address to write to him. This goodbye letter you've written will obviously be a good parting gift, so I'd give it to him a few days before he leaves IF you know when he will be leaving.

He keeps me on top of (i'm the first one he told), and we talk all the time on xbox live so we will keep in contact. Before he leave I'll stop at his house talk to him and his parents give the letter and a little souvenir, then leave.

My plan was to give it now but that would make him more depressed, so giving it to him before he leaves would be the better idea. Thanks for the advice guys.

That's a good plan
