I have a question about the rules: one of them says you can't like post in topics about 1 month old. I'm not in any way going against this rules but i just want to ask why (kinda dumb but still) this rule applies.

Hi.. welcome etc.

1. This is in the wrong place. Should be in Vthq.
2. Your first post could be in the Introductions sub-forum.
3. You can't 'bump' an old thread because it would result in loads of threads that have died. The discussion would be finished but one person would post saiyng 'Me too' or 'I agree' or 'That's normal'.
4. If you tried reading other threads before posting your own. You can do this by using the search bar near the top of the screen.

First, your first post shouldn't be in the intro forum. If you don't want to introduce yourself, you don't have to so please ignore that.

The reason we don't allow for bumped topics is because they have usually already been resolved, we want to cut back on spamming, and we want to encourage new topics to be brought up. There are a few others to but those are some main ones.

I agree with the above, and answer part of it with a question: why would you want to? If someone's question has already been answered, there's no reason to.

Ok fair enough... Your might want to make your first post there.

I can see that there are times when a new member feels they have something extra to add from their own experience and, perhaps because they are new, are keen to post to start getting involved on the site. But in the majority of cases the original poster's question will have by now been answered, if the thread is very old the OP may not still be active on the site and even if they are their circumstances could have changed.

So I think its a balance thing, yes there could be cases where the rule acts against a useful addition to a thread, but on balance in most cases the thread will have been answered already.

The same rule against bumping old threads applies on virtually every other forum.

Hey does that include giant surveys that have pages and pages of posts. like, a month ago i saw a thread that had over 10 pages that was made in may 2008.

It doesn't matter when it was made, the deciding factor is when it was last posted in.

Generally those are not closed. Polls too.

Thats advisable.

Also, remember that you can, however, bump sticky Threads, and more or less, threads in the Arcade. Thats why they're there.

I got an infraction for bumping old threads, but anyway, why can't they be locked, to stop members getting into trouble?

One of the reasons is because there are too many threads on here to simply lock them all, unless VT could get a programe of some sorts and they automaticly get locked after a period of time. But this would be dificult to code and to have and also to maintain. So the best thing that you can do is use common sence and look at the last time that someone posted in the thread and if its over a month old then dont post within that thread.

Ryan!

As Ryan said, I think it's after 3-4 weeks then it's classed as too old.

An infraction for that on the face of it seems a bit harsh, maybe Karl you have done it too often. Its easy to get caught out, you have to remember to look at least 3 or 4 posts back for a thread bump. It gets easier when you've been around a while because you just recognise old threads and think "hmm, havent seen that one for a while".

Thanks Nick, it happened to me when I'd only been a member for a couple of weeks, and I was excited at being able to talk to guys in English, and I just didn't look. The infraction period finishes next Sunday.

Hi Ryan, thanks, I'm better at seeing the old threads now, but at first I just didn't know.

Karl, are you using a translator. Or can you read and write English? If so then you're really good :). Yeah, you should use the edit button instead of double posting.
