PlayStation 2 vs Xbox

OK, well I'm not so much of a gamer anymore, although I own a PS3 but I don't play it much, but when I last regularly gamed, it was the era of the Xbox, PS2 and GameCube. :) So about 2005-2006.

Which console do you think was better: PS2 or Xbox (original not 360)?

I think the PS2 murdered the Xbox. PS2 had loads more games, and had many of my favourite series. PS2 had the Grand Theft Auto games first, even though they ended up being ported to PC and Xbox, but they have Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3, the Final Fantasy games, the SmackDown! games, and so on.

The only advantage I remember the Xbox having was better net play, and better graphics, but I am not much of a net player, and graphics aren't everything. The Xbox didn't have many decent exclusives except for the original Halo, Fable and a few others. Most of Xbox's good games were multiplatform anyway.

I never owned an Xbox, but man, did I have fun with Rachet and Clank, and Jak, and other fun games.

Weird, I've had my PS2 for like nine years and it still works fine.

I don't see why you picked Xbox purely because your PS2 ended up breaking, unless I have the wrong gist here. But you sound like you loved your PS2 beforehand?

My first PS2 broke too when I was 15 in 2005 after I had it for 3 years, and I just got the Slimline variation, which was when they were fairly new, selling for about £95.

ps2.. simply for the reason that I hadn't actually heard of xbox then. I was a very underground gamer at that point in my life.

Lol. It's so weird speaking about the PS2/Xbox in past tense. o.O I still even find myself calling 360/PS3 as "next gen" sometimes. I'm getting oldddd.

Oh and you could play online with PS2 too.. just very few games supported it and it wasn't that great. But SOCOM and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence were good online, and I think that Battlefield 2: Modern Combat was too.

PS2 is probably the best gaming console of ALL time, 160 million units sold. And has an endless library of games. Compared to xbox which has like what 20 million sold, which is the amount San Andraes has sold on PS2. And what did xbox have???? Halo, lol give me a break, PS2 had Metal gear solid, GTA, Grand Turismo, final fantasy etc. etc.

PS2 FTW. But if I had to pic my all-time favorite console, I would choose the motherfucking Nintendo 64. I grew up on Super Mario 64, 007, and Mario Kart. I could beat anyone on any of those games. I beat Super Mario 64 at least 3 times, with no guide book mind you. Oh, and when I say beat I mean all the stars. Yeah, I was a badass.

Me and my friend had a monstrous debate about this awhile back.

He said the xbox was better because of the "specifications", and halo. I had a PS2 and it was a great console, if i could go back i would still get the PS2. The reason the PS2 is better is the number of sales. 138 million (http://kotaku.com/5340392/sony-talk-PlayStation-lifetime-sales-psn-revenue) PS2's were sold from 2001-2009. While only 24 million (http://www.xbox.com/zh-SG/community/news/2006/20060510.htm) Xbox's were sold up to 2006.He tried to pull some ad campagin bullshit but the numbers show it all, when there are 114 million more consoles sold something has to be better.

The Xbox did have better graphical power (play any GTA on a PS2 then play it on an Xbox and you'll see) but they were still on the same level. The PS2 had more games, and chances were more of your friends had PS2's.

Even though i had a PS2, I never moved on to a PS3 I jumped over to the 360, But I still love the PS2.

always played xbox more because of xbox live, but as far as which console was more popular, the ps2 wins hands down
