I was just about to try and make a signature banner thing inn Fireworks, but when it asked for the pixel width/height I has no idea what to make it.

1. What's the standard size for a forum banner? Like Stephens - same size anyway.
2. What program should I use? I've already got the latest versions of Fireworks and Photoshop plus I have a basic understanding of them both...

Thanks. :)

If the image is just goin to stay on a computer, you want the pixel resolution to be around 70 pixels/inch, that is the most a computer screen can display.

I think photoshop is better than fireworks, but I think it might also be a bit more advanced to use, I'm not quite sure...personally, I use GIMP, it's great and it's free.

Ok, thanks for that. That parts done, it's been made and it's all ready to be put up... one more thing though :)
Is there a way to make the 'object' be solid against the forums background - I've only got 2 words, without any colour behind, but when I try to upload it it comes up as white... I've tried setting the canvas to white, transparent and custom (white and nothing).. Any ideas?

use .png format, i'm not sure if photoshop can save as that but that is one of the only formats that i know that can save tranceparency, you're probably saving it as a .jpeg now.

Ugh. This is frustrating... I've checked it's definitely in .png and the canvas is set to transparent, the magic wand that is used to delete the background stuff doesn't work for some reason...

File > Save for web & devices

PNG24, select transparency

Oh Ok. I'll transfer it to Photoshop now.

I think I might just give up...
I've put it into Photoshop, done what you said and it still comes up with a white background of here...
I've uploaded what I've already made but with a black background. It looks shit with too much emptyness.
