View Full Version : P101 Noobs.

Is there absolutely no way we can stop the nooblets over at p101 from posting the same questions over and over again. I was on there yesterday and I answered a question about penis curve, I log back on today and there's 3 more.
We all know that p101 is full of the idiots, but lets not get into a debate about that. Is there anything we can do?

You can avoid the section if it annoys you so much.

If you don't like it, avoid the forum. Yes, it's true that most new members don't use the search function to find similar threads, but do you really expect them to? They just want their question answered when they need it, which means that they often just throw caution to the wind.

I actually saw you making a huge post of links to other threads whilst moaning at someone
but
why not either avoid wasting your time and hit that fold button over p101
or put half as much effort into the psot as you did in finding the links and actually answer the guys questions?

Its been the same since 2004. You can't stop it and there's no reason to stop it, it's not hurting anyone. No-ones going to search for themselves half the time.

I get sick of having new members referred to as "noobs" or p101ers etc.. They're members and entitled to the same curtesy as people that post anywhere else on the site. Its not nice to refer to a whole group of people as "idiots".

It can be annoying, especially when there are 4 or 5 of the same one right on the first page where it's easy to see them. But it's just going to happen.
As has been said, just avoid it if it bugs you.

Fair points. But to be fair Nick, a large amount of them are quite idiotic. They can't spell, they don't look for similar threads and they don't read the rules. That to me seems idiotic.
I understand that I could just avoid it, but it's a 'good' part of the site and someone other than the people asking the questions needs to be there.

Stereotyping 'them' would be meaing that I was suggesting all of the people in p101. I said and mean a large amount, as in all the new members that join for the sole purpose of asking the same question.

That's ridiculous Ben, no one joins "for the sole purpose of asking the same question". Those of us that choose to stay in p101 to try to be helpful must accept its failings and frustrations. If you cant do that then move on.

Ok, lets change the way I worded that then...
What seems like the sole purpose. You know as well as I do that loads of people join ask the same old 5 questions then leave. Or get banned.

My point is that for them it is not the same question, it is a new question. We may have already answered it countless times but for them they have only asked it once.

it is annoying, and frustrating, but spending time away from there would help. the other reason it happens is that people often want personalised answers as well. not much can be done, and as andy said, its been the same fo 5 years.

I didn't post and 'stupid shit' I don't see why anyone else should of? It isn't difficult to check the first couple of pages and read the rules.
I'm not saying that they shouldn't be asking the questions they are, I'm asking if there is any way for Vt to show them what to ask, where to look etc.
All of you seem to of missed that part.

Correct. All you're really doing is singling them out. Sure, I don't like some new members, but others are good in the fact that they decided to leave P101 and branch out. Sure, most of them don't spell words correctly, but that's the internet for you. People are GOING to use SMS and text talk because it's easy. True, not everyone uses it, but that doesn't mean you have the right to get them on it.
As has been stated, they are new members, maybe even new to forums in themselves. So telling them to search a topic is a bit strange to them. Saying that it's not hard to check the out the rules and such is true, but do you really expect new members to read every single rule and FAQ? You can't because it would be forcing a square peg into a round hole, not gonna happen.
I know for a fact that I was an idiot, just not on this site.
Well, someone holds a very high opinion of themselves. Really, you act like you weren't a new member at one point.

I never posted any questions at all. I read through like the first 10 pages on p101. Then I asked a few that hadn't been asked. I was a new member that didn't make a large amount of posts for weeks.
If they're new to a forum, or just this one, surely they would read the rules. If you don't know what your doing then you do a bit of research, I do for anything...

So that automatically means that everyone does research for anything like a forum? When I was new, I didn't read the rules until two months after I joined when I got freezed. It taught me a lesson that I had to abide by the rules or I'd pay for the consequence.

Just because you didn't post don't mean that the other new members won't. And they are not going to read the rules either! You may have a handfull that does, but 95% of them won't. It is irritating, I know, since I am usually in the p101 fourms also. They do get quite annoying but I don't say nothing.

That's a very sweeping generalisation and probably not true, but even if it was true would it matter. Surely that would indicate that the site was working, people were able to come along with a question, get their answer, and go away hopefully happy with it.

Nobody reads stickies or uses the search function, so that can be ruled out. The fact may just be that people want personalized responses to their questions. Members, especially new members, are going to go right for it an ask questions. Personally I don't mind answering questions, but I've not been around long.
Open a word document, save your best responses, and paste them into duplicate threads.

Dude, I've been saying we need to get rid of Puberty for years, thats obviously not going to happen. And let me tell you, I hate that place with a passion, but, do I sit around and complain about it? No. There is a minimize button for a reason, if it annoys you this much don't visit it, don't even look at it. If you want to venture out and browse around in there, expect all this stuff, its not going to change. The Puberty dwellers think that the world is going to end becuase their penis is doing "this" and most of them are in a panic about it that they dont give a rats ass about rules or how often its been asked. For them whatever is going on with them is strange and never happens to anyone else. So why even bother to look at any other threads? And like its been said, they want a personal answer, just because thats what was wrong with Joey doesnt mean its the same thing as the poster, as they believe resulting in a new thread.
And about the rules, I still dont think I've ever read them. So, how do you expect the Puberty dwellers to?

It was the way you typed the sentence out. Classifying yourself as a "proper" member was like saying you were part of some big politcal party of some sort.

Considering I'd been talking about when I had been a new member, I though it was clear that by saying 'proper' I was referring to myself not being a new member anymore.
Besides I'm going to get this locked now, it's turned into a discussion about new members in general. And me for some reason.

It's not like we can stop the new members from posting in p101, or make the new members read p101. There just like most of us on this site, didn't read the rules.
We can't make them read the rules. We know it's annoying and agrivating to see them post such stupid questions and polls.
But what can we do?? Nothing!

it isnt a problem if you dont make it one
