Well Photoshop is the photo editor by which most others are judged, but maybe what Denley needs is more of a DTP package. I'm no expert on these, but QuarkXpress comes to mind.

I'm in a computer design class and were using adobe illustrator and our teacher says we will eventually make a magazine spread with it. It's similar to Photoshop, although I don't like it as much. It's a bit harder to use.

I would say Illustrator.
