We cant help you if you arent willing to be helped
just asking for help doesnt mean you can be saved
it jsut gives you the oppurtunity for help
its up to you whether or not you accept it
This Announcement found at the top of the Cutting and Self Harming page offers possible methods to distract yourself from self harming (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/announcement.php?f=16&a=52)

You can stop before it gets out of control.
I started when I was 7, & I'm 17 now.
I'll always struggle with self harming, even if I stop, the urges & temptations will forever be inside me.
The scars will always be there, & a reminder of it, & at times, do trigger me to do it again.
& the memories will always be there too, same as above.
I could relapse at any stage in recovery from self harm.
It's something that has caused so much chaos in my life, & at times, has become life threatening.
Please stop.
You don't want to do this, & you certainly don't need this in your life.
It's awful.
See a counselor, or a therapist, they can help you too.

Look we all know that its hard but I think that from what I can remember I could have stoped myself from doing it when I had just started. I dont see why you cant just stop doing it. Its not like your addicted at the moment. Im sure that everyone needs you to stay stong and you need to stay stong for yourself. I would recomend going to see a counceler, they will be able to help you figure out why you feel like you have to do this.

What age are you anyway, if you're an adult you probably shouldn't be asking young teens for help.

For once, i agree with calum. If you refuse what you said you wanted do you REALLY want it in the first place?

You've been given good, solid advice, and you're ignoring it. Thats not our or anyone else's fault except yours. Don't come on here, asking for advice if you're just looking for sympathy. This section is to help people who actually want to quit. And most people don't suffer in silence, most people want help, and want to be happy, so they seek professional advice, which is what you should be doing. Don't come if you're just bitch about unfair life is. We can't help you if you don't want to be helped.

Duncan if you havnt done so already, read the post at the top of the cutting and self harm forum, its got tonnes of ways to help your urges. unfortunately i cant help you myself i have the willpower of a dead badger...:)
And i understand your problem, dont you guys?
if he goes to c someone he'll be discharged. he asked for advice on stopping the urges.
But duncan you CAN stop now. just like that. DO IT!
btw. calum i dont think he does pose a risk to his squad. he's a trained soldier and, if he did, i dont think he would go back and let it happen, do you?

I had an uncle who served in iraq. he came home after a tour acting strange. he wouldn't eat, sleep, or even leave his room after a while. he found out he was burning himself and contemplating suicide. we told him to get help, he didn't. he said he could control himself as long as he had something to do. he went back for another tour. he broke out into a psychotic rage in the middle of an operation. he got himself and 2 of his brothers in arms killed. if you really believe you can control your urges when you go back, i can't stop you. you may not have the same symptoms as my uncle, but you could if you don't check yourself out. i don't know if you are a marine or a army man. but a soldier is trained to be strong physically, and mentally. and part of being strong mentally is being strong enough to get yourself checked out. So talk to a trusted friend about this. or go to an independent doctor or other trusted advisor for help. i wish you luck. Semper Fi.
