View Full Version : are my scars supposed to bother me?

Everyone has seen my arms. Almost all the scars I still have (usually they fade after a few months, so almost everything from july and before is gone) are VERY obviously self harm. Too wide to be the pets, too straight and parallel to be just me crashing into stuff)
I don't care anymore.
Sure they're ugly as shit, and an oh so unneeded reminder of things I've done, and what I'm trying to get away from.
But I don't care who sees them. It doesn't matter to me.
No one really comments either. The only people I've had take a notice were cutters too.
Am I supposed to care or something?

I don't think you have to care.
In fact, I think that if you care about your scars and who sees them then you are more likely to relapse either out of shame or seeing it in a positive light.

I am bothered by them, but it seems other people are more bothered by them than I am.
I'm used to them being there, mine are quite severe & very visible, & quite obviously from self harm.
I've been severely bullied for them, & it's affected me quite badly, but... each scar tells a different story, memory... They feel a part of me... I'm pretty used to them being there.

No-one can say for sure wether or not you should care it's a question of your own morals ever heard the old saying, "nature holds no taboo"? no-one can dictate to you what's right or wrong you have to make up your own mind.
Personally mine don't bug me but I'm in no mood to have other people telling me, "Oh please stop for me." I can't really be bothered with all of that again.

Its good in someways that you dont care as you can live your life as normal as possiable. Although sometimes it may be good to be concious of them as others may not all be as 'used' to them as other. (if you get what im saying lol) :) xx

somtimes its good not to care, because then, no one can really bother you about it, also if they don't bother you, they won't be an urge to do it. the only good thing about scars, if you care about them, you can use that as a reason not to self harm

Well, they do cause me to be triggered & I want to do more if I remember what happened, & how I got the scars, & them being there, does trigger me, but I'm not as bothered about them as other people seem to be.
& I'm also bothered, & have been severely affected by bullying, one reason was due to my scarring&fresh wounds, when others use my scars against me and/or bother me about them.
I'm just used to them, not heavily bothered about them, & it's not a reason for me to stop, as I'm not sure I care if I get more scars.

Mine don't bother me. I actually like them. In the future, when I've properly stopped, theyl always be there as a reminder that yeah, i went through bad times and didnt deal with it in the best way, but now I'm over it and I am still alive.
