i think the origanal posters schould be able to lock there own threads when they have there Q answered that would cut down on the bumping of old threads and the results can still be viewed by people :D

Why? Ok so bumping, but its not a big problem. I look around and I dont see many "bumped" threads. Also after that person might have got their answer, there could be someone else who has a question related to that. And sometimes there is a good reason to bump a thread. If someone bumps a thread just to say "I've been there" or something short and not at all helpful, its bad, but there are cases when its a good thing. And if you want it locked that badly report it, asking for it to be locked. Someone will lock it.

In theory it's a good idea. I know it works on a few forums that I go on. But this site is used by teens who will most probably abuse the feature, like locking a thread they started when other members are in the middle of a discussion.

It's no different than a moderator responding to a lock request while others in the thread are in a discussion. It's just faster.

But we don't always lock them just because the OP wants it locked that looks horrible having a lot of locked threads on the first page.

We can't give all members mod powers

If you have a thread of yours that you want locked, you can always use the report button to request that a moderator do that for you. Just report the first post in the thread so we can see that you did indeed start it and in the area where you can give a reason for reporting, say you want the thread locked.

Also, in response to the little bit about bumps further up the page, all bumps are generally considered bad, once they're after a certain point. The only exception is stickies, and some polls/surveys.

Wonder.

It would be useful if no mods are on which for me is often. You could make it for if they have 500 posts or however many. If they abuse it, take away their privliges.

I dont see why anything needs to be locked at all.
If no one is fighting, just let the thread die on its own.

This whole thing of the OP wanting their own thread locked is stupid, just because your done with it doesnt mean everyone else is too.

I agree. Allowing Op's to lock their own threads would probably just result in loads of threads with like 10 replies.

I disagree with the people saying that it shouldn't be like that. It is the OP's post, and if they want it locked, then we all should have the ability to beable to lock our own. It's not like we can lock all of the threads that are on this fourm. And basically, the only people that post on here are the noobs which ask the same question in a thread right above them.

Clearly youve spent to mcuh time in p101 from your last comment
its not much of a problem in the other forums
and people do have the power to lock their own threads
all they need to do is click the report on their original post and ask for it to be locked

I agree with that. It's mainly P101 that shold have to be locked the most.
