View Full Version : How to hide scars? (This could be seen as going against the rules but it's not)

I know the rules say don't encourage self harm but like I said this isn't me trying to encourage self harm it's just in some situations that I've been through; Abusive peers, parents, siblings ect that could lead you to become even more upset and hence harm yourself further It's better to hide your scars from view to the best of your abilities than risk people seeing them. If you are in a situation where hiding your scars might be necessary I would encourage you to seek help where possible and if you're considering self harming I'd encourage you to go here first:

Just a little word of warning before we go on.
Anyway here are my methods they don't actually suit most people but it'll give ideas anyway:
Makeup, guys you will have to bite the bullet on this one.
Wrist warmers,
Wrist/ankle supports, for weight lifters and athletes.
Wrist/ankle weights, again for athletes.
Bracelets and beads,
"Rocker" arm bands, Try to get them with studs instead of spikes for obvious reasons.
Summer "fleece" jackets.
Pyjamas, if you can get away with it all day.
"Skater" tops,
Thick tights and short skirts, a very common one for girls.
Write on them/ get a tattoo, only on scars not fresh wounds.
Spirit brand watches, are usually cheap and have very thick wrist bands.
Ace bandages,
Most concealers from an M.A.C. store.
Oh and the sooner you learn to flawlessly lie the better. (if your in the situation stated above of course.)
I'll add more as and when the page is updated.

Make up..actually a pretty good one. Foundation covers the scar on my face really well, especially in the summer when its more noticable.

Lol you say make up but most girls make up is orange, whist this os ok for your face it would be so obvious if you were to put this on your arms. Lol xx :) x

I Can see how you could say this is beneficial to people
since it is helping them recover by not having to put up with the crap for their scars
but in a way its also counter-productive
since by lieing your removing possibilities of help
and also
People not wanting their scars seen is a big motivator for stopping
and if offered multiple methods to hide them
it means they dont have to stop and they can continue Self harming
and jsut hide new cuts and scars completely defeating the purpose of this forum

Tbph, hiding them isn't always the best way to deal with them. By hiding them, you are almost saying that their existence is something to be ashamed of.
Accept them and learn to live with them. That is the way to truly liberate yourself - in my opinion.

My friend Catherine anne killed herself after her parents found out she self harmed. They made her feel worse about it by calling her abusive names and making her show her scars in public, even going as far as to stop random people in crowded areas to tell them to look at her. I don't want that happening to anyone else so I try to help them cover up.
I'm not going to say I don't see where you're coming from though.

No, i didnt. The only time i hide it is during times im close to people my own age (stupid as it sounds im fine around most adults), like college etc because im pretty self conscious about staring and asking questions.

Around here you'd never get a job if you went into an interview with a scar on your face because they presume you're involved in gang violence. Yeah rough area.

If you are too open about your scars and wounds you get called a attention seeker. If anyone else has been called that i'm sure you will agree that it is not helpful and also very upsetting. . .leading you to do it again. I think everyone has a right to keep there scars private and to try and sort there problems out themselves. I just use long sleeves to hide mine :)

still people around me get suspicious everytime i have one of those arm warmers or whatever.and once i took this foundation thing or whatever and it was like much more visible since it emphasized it and all.i'm sticking too long sleeves and hiding my arm when summer comes.and for fading them i use any creme with vitamin e in it.it's really helping.my old scars are almost invisible.even big ones.it's not instant but after some time you'll notice the difference.it also helps with healing cuts.on't put it on an open one but whenyour skin regenerates a bit you canput some of this creme over it.

haha this might not work for me so much I stick to the same general area when cutting and I'd have no way of applying it without putting it on fresh cuts, Thanks for the advice though.
