create a forum thing where you can ask a few questions on your homework and maybe the other members will help

and have a rule against posts saying "do it yourself" b/c ppl posting will most likely need HELP

If you want answers, go to google, if you want help, you're SOL on an online forum.

I don't think it would work tbh.

We DO have a education forum, you'd know if you looked first. It's one of the last forums in H&A.

EDIT: Sorry that I didn't add earlier, but you shouldn't be asking US for help. Really, if you're having trouble with assigned work, go to your parents or teacher to help you out.

I dont think this is the kinda forum that needs to help people with their homework... Thats kinda teachers jobs... and this is something that could easily go into TWPR. I say, no. :P + Whats wrong with posting that sort of thing in the education forum? >.<

Didnt know we had an education forum, i browsed all the categories, must have skipped over that one

still, it would be nice to have someone to help that could maybe explain it better than a teach, and i dont need the help, it was just a suggestion

oh and thanks for the rudeness matt

If you have any problems with me, then take it to PM. I'm not going to waste my time spam fighting. Oh, and you're welcome.

Not necessarily true.
Teachers can't make all of their students understand their homework before class ends.
In math we learn one section a day and nearly 60 percent I have no idea what I am doing for some questions.

I like the idea, but if you need HW help, just post it in the Education forum. Its okay :)

EDIT: Matt, don't be rude, its mean and unnecessary.

Why shouldn't they ask us for help? This is a help and advice forum is it not?

your idea has merit, however i think individual help questions for homework should be asked in the educations/careers forum. that was partly the reason for the creation of that forum to start with.

It's a help and advice forum... It for HELP and ADVICE... Like HELP and ADVICE about homework.

You can't always get help from teachers or parents either....If you are home, your teachers aren't there with you. Obviously. So, out of luck there unless you can get it the next day. My parents couldn't help me with my homework if they wanted to either. Heck, my mom can't even help my brother with some of his homework. It's not always that simple to get help in your own home, depending on what classes you are taking.

Plus, if you ask your peers, more than likely they are doing the same thing now, or just did it recently, so they are positive of how to do it....rather than their parents, if they can help you, who did it long ago.

Yeah, if you have homework questions, post it in Education and Careers. It might not be immediate....but it's worth a shot!

Ok, I'm putting this in the thread to state MY side of the entire "rude" thing (but it probably will be shurgged off I'm sure). It's obvious that Dustin did do a full look over of the index. I'm simple stating that if he had looked first, he would have found it and this whole thing would have NEVER happened. The only reason my post is found to be rude is becuase you all READ it in a rude tone. Unless you all were behind me when I typed it, you would see it wasn't. Instead, I'm getting my ass chewed because you all take offense at it and now I'm getting blamed for all of this. Dustin and I had a lovely conversation via PM. It's blown over, but I'm stating my side here because I'm not going to sit around and having to deal with people acting like I'm such an asshole.

Go ahead and try to negative rep me for this "rude" post, but I couldn't care less if you did because I'm not being rude, I'm defending myself because I have the right. If there are any problems, let's make it clean and just take it to PM with me because I'm not going to be spam fighting with anyone.

Yeah, but why would someone go right to the internet for help on homework? The smart thing to do is ask your teacher who ASSIGNED you the work if you're having trouble with it.

No, the smart thing to do is to at least try and figure it out yourself before going to your teacher. If you're already home from school and have an assignment due the next day, you obviously can't ask your teacher for help until the next day. Rather than going to school empty handed its definitely the right thing to show you at least tried to do it.

You go on the internet to take initiative. You have to learn to venture out and ask the right people questions when you're stuck.

Its hard to ask the teacher about your HOMEwork when its due the next day.
Thats why you do it at home. If you don't get it, find a way to understand it. Asking someone else who knows it is probably the best bet. Hence asking on our teen advice/help forum.

Sometimes you have to ask online.

John gave me homework help once.

The education and careers forum is the place to ask homework questions. But really, at least 9 times out of 10 a google search would answer your question.

i understand the google thing, but sometimes a teen can help explain it better than an adult

and for me, having that interaction feeling will make we want to try harder to understand something

I didn't understand that...

I didn't understand that...

He thinks that a teen could better answer the question other than a teacher with a degree. He also says he likes the interaction of teen to teen advice.

Ah ok. Thanks.
I suppose I agree then, someone the same age could look at things from the same POV. So they might be able to explain it better, although a teacher is trained to do exactly that.

I had someone help me with Chemistry homework once. I googled it, I reread everything in the book about it, I did everything I could and it didn't click for me. A guy named Ekia, long long time ago, broke it down for me and I understood it. And let me tell you, Chemistry looks funny as hell in a post! But it worked.

I can't exactly ask my teacher because it was due the next day, if I came in with an empty paper and tell him I didn't get it, I'd have gotten a zero.

So yeah, sorry for my rambling, people can help with homework and thats partly what that forum can be used for.

This may be a good idea but people may abuse the system.
Homework is there to for the teacher to know if you understand something. If you ask for help on here then it defeats the object of it.
If you didnt understand it in the lesson then why not ask your teacher when your assighned it.
xx:)

But if the homework is to finish off school work or do coursework then I don't see the problem... I agree that if it was to test you if you could understand it then it wouldn't be right.

Sometimes another teen can explain it better than a teacher can. In fact I've had teachers ask other students to do just that. There's no problem with asking a peer for homework advice.

Im in favour of the idea on the whole, but there are plenty of other cateogries where you can post these questions.

Wait.. your teacher must of been pretty shit if he/she couldn't explain it.

No it wasn't a shitty teacher students are just better at explaining some things it's why they encourage study groups. Also it's kinda hard to ask a teacher for help with other students at her desk. Anyways I take two online classes and the only way i can get help on my homework is by emailing the teacher and waiting for a response that is usually in a couple hours or the next day so I use msn or skype to ask my peers help.

This would be a good idea and study buddies help ALOT!!! But one problem i see is complete jerks telling the poror kid who needs help, the wrong way to do something or something completely wrong.
