There are many different careers in psychology and you may want to hold off on choosing one until you are on your degree and have got a feel for the subject. This is because the subject is really different to what many people imagine it to be like.
Anyway, a psychologist can work in schools (educational), the work place (occupational), prisons (forensic) as well as hospitals and health clinics (health and clinical). The list goes on to include neuropsychology, counselling and sports psychology.

I'm not sure about what salaries are like in Canada, but in the UK neuropsychologists and clinical psychologists seem to be the best paid. That said, it is not uncommon for other psychologists to reach a salary of £50,000 once they have gained a significant amount of experience.
At the end of the day though, you should choose the field that best suits you and your interests/abilities.

Excellent, I see I'm right on cue.
There are many career options in the field and many pay pretty good. I wouldn't set one's sights only one on career goal and nothing else because if you haven't taken psychology, especially at a university level, then you're really just postulating on something you don't know much on.
There can be psychology with law, education, clinical, research, development in children, geriatrics, neuro- and other biological aspects, pharmacology, abnormal, personality, animal behavior, cognitive and the list continues.
The ones that get paid a good amount are doctors, and in the field of psychology, unlike other fields, there's not just a PhD and M.D. doctor. In the 1970s, the APA allowed for a new type, a PsyD (doctorate of psychology) which is a blend of research and clinical work. It depends also on the geographic location and whether you own your own business or work for a hospital or government. Generally those owning a business earn less because they have to pay the various payments for the building, putting up the signs, advertising, etc... . It also depends on the field of psychology you're going into. If one compares geriatric psychology vs. neuropsychology, chances are the neuropsychology earns more but that's not to say that the geriatric psychologist will be dirt poor.
So the point is, don't have a specific career in psychology in mind because you may not know much about the other areas. As usual, I give personal examples.
When I did first-year psychology, I was interested in the idea of criminal profiling and presumed forensic psychology was just that (later on I found out forensic psychology is much, much more). Anyways, during that course, we were introduced to a biological aspect regarding neurotransmitters, neuroanatomy and neurophysiology. Being a biology student I was amazed at this and looked into it a bit more to see that in second-year, there's a course called neuropsychology, followed by more in third and fourth year. Had I just had my sights on criminal profiling and purely abnormal psychology, I'd have never realized that such a field of neuropsychology exists. I also realized that neuropsychology can apply to criminals and can have their own set of disorders within abnormal psychology not found in the DSM system.

The first step to a career, is learning how to spell the field.
I will echo what other people have posted here. Don't worry so much about what career you will go into, just know there are many good choices. Focus more on getting into a good school and majoring in psych. Psych is quite a compeditive field, so getting tops grades is quite important
