Hey, I live in a small town that doesn't have it's own soccer team and most the guys in my area are more interested in football or basketball and think soccer's stupid. I remember playing soccer when I was little and being pretty good at it. But I haven't gotten much chance to play since. I like soccer and want to play again but I don't remember how to play. How can I practice by myself? Is it worth the hour drive to corpus to join a soccer team? I'm pretty sure that if it's an organized sport(assuming you guys read my last thread here) I would be more easily motivated. How much money does it usually cost? (Total of everything).

If the guys in your area think it's a stupid sport, then there are a lot of stupid people in the world. I think it is definitely worth an hour's drive to play. The beauty of the game is at basic level it only costs the price of a ball. Practise by yourself by kicking a ball against a wall. Sometimes in my room I stand on my bed and throw a ball against the wall opposite and dive about on the bed pretending to be the goalkeeper. Go for it, and have fun.

Thanks, I will. :) Although would kicking it against a wall really make me any better?

I would drive to the place, and talk to them about it. They'll fill you in on the info. Soccer looks pretty fun, but I grew up with boxing, so yeah. :P

In my area there is soccer in schools and recreation centers that host teams.
For instance, I play soccer through my city during the summer.
So maybe you should look for activites through city rec. centers.
Otherwise, I am sure there are traveling teams in your area, so just find one.
Soccer, otherwise is a great sport :)

Practicing by yourself does help loads. For instance I was terrible at shooting on teh run or passing accurately on the run so I would aim for a spot on something and while dribbling the ball shoot at it or pass to it, it's helped a lot. Although practicing in your own can only do so much, I would suggest going to corpus and talking to some people about it.

I love soccer. If you really serious about playing, then its worth driving the hour.
A good thing to start with is to dribble a soccer ball whenever you are just walking outside or walking somewhere. You might worry about what others might say, but who cares. If you really serious and like it nothing will bother you. An alternative to this is just having a soccer ball at your feet whenever you are inside your house at all times. Try dribbling up and down stairs. Warning: parents tend not to like this!
As prices go, some of the equipment like, shin guards, spikes, and a ball vary in price range. Spikes usually range from $25 - $100. Shin guards are about $10 - $20. Soccer balls have a wide range of prices. I am not so sure on team expenses. If you are looking to be on a travel team, some of them do tend to be a little pricey (not exactly sure never played on one but my friends have) but there are teams and leagues that are free and cost less.
Good look in whatever you decide!

I've been playing soccer for ten years and if you feel that you want to play soccer, take the drive. I've known ppl who have had a 3 hour drive. To pracrtice by yourself, I would work on first changes of speedowhen running. Like jog a 400 m than sprint a 100 m and 300 m and than 200 and 200 ect. Then you should try to get as many touches on the ball you can. Cost can add up quickly though. Shoes that my teamates have are $95-$250. Then shin guards are like 10. But if you want to do competitive soccer, the prices really depend on the club and coach. If its a private coach than you will probaly have to pay very week anywhere between $50-$175 plus any training fees and refree fees, tournment fees, hotels for tournments. But just do want you want to do. If you love the sport do it.

There is a pretty good soccer anime called 'Aoki Densetsu no Shoot', they do some pretty sweet drills there.
