Yeah, I was just wondering the actual reasons to give that out, b'cos i got one for stating my opinion, perhaps a little bluntly [which i appologised for], but my opinion all the same...
I don't mind if that is a valid reason... fair play... but personally I find it abit unfair...

I think it is a valid reason.
You can give positive rep for posts that express an opinion in line with your own so I can't see why it wouldn't work the other way around.

Okay fair enough, thank you.

If you mean that you were rude then its fair enough to expect -rep for that. If you feel -rep is unfair you can appeal to either of the admin users, Maverick or Epiphany, by pm. I've done that in the past and the system does work, if they agree the -rep is unfair they will retract it and have the ability to infract the person that gave it for abusing the system.

Hm. It probably could of been seen as rude, I'll just leave it. I suppose ir depends how you see what I saw.
The comment on the -rep was 'LIES'... as though i'd told a lie when all i'd done was state my opinion.. ooh well.. that was his opinion of what I said I guess.

You can receive negative rep for almost anything.
Being offensive with regards to language, religion, race. Just anything that anyone can disagree with.
Giving bad advice can also result in -rep, but less people have strong opinions about that kinda thing.

Oh I will give -rep if I see bad advice, I'm not always the softy that I might seem.

Like I've said elsewhere, its worth taking into account the rep power of the person that has given the -rep. Its very annoying that -rep can be unsigned so you're not always sure who it was. But if it is from a person with low rep power its really not worth worrying about. The effect on your own rep will be very little. Hopefully those of us with higher rep power will use it responsibly.

To clarify...

If a person with 100 rep power +reps you you'll get 100 rep points (Not rep power). If they -rep you you'll lose 50 rep points. You lost half of their rep power when they neg rep you.

Ive found people neg rep me when they dont agree with me, which is bullshit because I am entitled the same to my opinion as you are to yours. That doenst make me wrong, why the fuck are you neg repping me?

If you say 'why the fuck' when you're getting your opinion across then that could be a reason. But if you're remotely rude/offensive when you give your opinion then they have the right to neg rep you.

It depends how you express the opinion and what the opinion is. If someone expressed an opinion that all gays are going to hell, for example, I would probably -rep that. But you shouldnt be -rep'd for just disagreeing with someone.

I was talking to people in my town that had McCain - Palin 08 bumperstickers that had them ripped off their cars. They have the same right as anyone else to to advertise their opinion.

If that's the case then you should Pm an admin. They can remove dodgy -rep.

Maverick (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/member.php?u=2879) or Epiphany (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/member.php?u=7524).

What you call blue is neutral rep, you get that when someone tries to give you rep but actually they have 0 rep power. That's usually because they are new to vt and haven't built up any rep power, but can also be because they have lost their rep power through being neg repped.

From what I've seen you can get negative rep for absolutely no reason at all and the person who's negative repping you just doesn't like you. I've gotten negative rep and the "comment" that is required was just a period.

If you dont think there was anything wrong in what you said, and it was said politely, then appeal.
