I agree their older stuff was better, and more original. My favourite song is Good Riddance, love that track.

They're the only truly original punk band left that survived the 80s and 90s. That's an acomplishment in itself. I like American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. Rumor has it that they'll get a new album out THIS year, but I'm not sure. Haven't checked in a while. I haven't really heard their original stuff, seeing as how they haven't reissued their really early albums from the 80s and 90s yet. But will definately need to buy them.

Green Day sucks. They use like the same five power chords in every song.

Alright then Jake, answer me THIS. You don't like Green Day JUST because they apparently use the same chords in every song? Sorry, I'm no guitarist, I'm just a drummer and keyboardist. I listen to them because of the song writing. Judging a band SOLELY on what chords they use or how they arrange music is a bit one sided don't cha think?

That's not the main reason. I jsut think it is stupid that they do that.
I don't like them because their songs suck. Their music is bland and boring.

and yes they have reissued their first albums, i have their 1039/smoothed out slappy hours reissue. they made their first album in 1990, so they werent from the 80s, that was their band sweet children, which under that name made no records.

a lot of bands do that, more than anyone would suspect actually, but it also depends what tickles your fancy when it comes to songwriting. to me their songs are fairly powerful to those who are open about listening to them, but to you they aren't, and thats valid enough when it comes disliking an artist. its like robbie williams for me, his music is so boring and bland to me.
there isn't any reason to attack him about not liking Green Day.
sorry for double post ><

They may have never made a record under Sweet Children, but that doesn't mean they weren't a band. My aunt followed them around back when they toured the East Coast back in '87 or '88. Even then Armstrong and Dirnt were writing songs. Yes, they ARE punk. However, the definition of Punk has changed within the last twenty years. Punk now is nothing compared to the punk of the 70s and 80s.
Also, I have found no reissues. The only albums I've found, and I've looked at pretty much every music store I can get in to, are "Dookie", "American Idiot", and "21st Century Breakdown". Nothing more, nothing less I suppose.

Green Day are not punk. I sort of like them though, Holiday, East Jesus Nowhere and Hitchin' A Ride are their best songs imo.

yeah, a band since 87, but it was a different band nonetheless, to me i don't see it as the same thing, sorry :(. you can't change a musical genre, you can have bands that have developed a different sound to punk, but that does not make them punk. punk still means the same thing to my parents, and to most teenagers that like punk music, even though they didnt live in the 70s or part of the 80s. there was grunge in the 90s and now their is pop punk, which is not related to punk in the slightest, and emo. i just think that music these days thats classified as 'punk' is basically an insult but it as nothing in the music that punk music did.
i live in australia, and come on, its australia, we have nothing here, so if you live in either a really small place, or a country that is small, then you pretty much won't find anything, you could always find their stuff online.

Yes, I can see how you might not agree that there is a similarity between SC and Green Day, but really I find a lot of it the same. They were punk then, they are punk now, thye always will be I think. I agree that anything today classified as punk is an insult to the genre. TRUE punk was The Ramones and The Sex Pistols. They were REAL punk, not the emo or pop punk shit shoved down our throats. Really, if you do live in a small area, I could really see that you can't find anything much. Finding stuff online is easy anyways with torrents, rapidshare, and megaupload. I think we're just two musically different people and I find that pretty nice to be quite honest.

i think green day, were and are like a third wave of punk, its more punk than anything by say, all time low (which i cannot stand them, anyway to me they're under the 'emo' term) , they had the punk rock influences, like sex pistols, the clash and what not, but they weren't and arent proper punk, just influenced by it. today people have no musical knowledge it, kinda makes me die a little inside. i also think green day are too old to look emo, i think they should look as they did in 92 to 97.
oh i have a copy of all their albums, i bought them from a record store, i live in the city, so it was easier for me, i'd refuse to download anything illegally that was green day's, because well, they have been my favourite band for a long time and i'd kill me if i ever did.
