Why was VT made with VBulletin? What made it the final decision? Isn't VBulletin more expensive than things like smf or forumotion? It's just been on my mind lately. And I'm not saying I don't like VBulletin, It's actually my favorite one I know of, but I'm just curious.

It's actually my favorite one I know of

This would be why.

It is true that, yes, vBulletin is more expensive than many other forums softwares out there. But, to many it has the best and most friendly user interface, as well as a large community which provides things like mods and AddOns, various types of skins, etc.

Generally you get what you pay for, and this is certainly true in this case. Originally VT was a PHPBB forum (far before I was here) but they made the switch eventually because vBulletin is just all around better.

You get what you can afford. Which is why I use proboards.

If this were a forumotion forum it would get no traffic.

It looks great. It has a lot of neat features and is highly used and supported.
Note that the site was not originally on vB. This was an upgrade made in 2006. It was started on phpBB or phpBB 2.

I just found that out right before I read this. I read the story for the first time.

I truely am sorry for bringing this up because it is sad but what day did Sam die? It only says March.
