well i've decided to defrag the hard drive on my laptop as it's starting to slow down and lag alot, it's an Acer laptop which is about as much as i can tell you in technical stuff.
i started the defrag at about 11pm and it's now 3:33am..... what is going on lol is there something fucked up with the laptop or is there just alot to defrag?
i would quite like to go to sleep but scared this will go into to hibernate and turn off making me have to do it all over again lmao

any advice would be helpful:)

just saying, Acer was a bad choice, its cheap, but bad choice

I tried the frag thing but it takes forever, as long as you turn off the hibernate thing, then it should keep going

Here's a better idea.
Pick a day when your in the house all day, start the defrag when you get up and wait for it to finish. Then restart your laptop and do it again, it shouldn't take as long the second time as there's less shit to move about.

And here's a better-er idea.
Set up a defragging schedule, once a week, Sunday night usually works best.
Then, you won't even notice them, and they'll run speedy as hell, as not much fragmentation occurs within a week.

it was schedualed to run by itself every wednesday but it dosen't seem to be doing it because the defrag finished this morning after about..... oh say 36 BLOODY hours continuously!!
and i'm still not noticing it going much faster

You won't notice much of a difference if those fragmented files weren't used frequently. Also, no matter how much defragmenting you do, it won't speed your system up if you have a bunch of crap running. (On a 32bit system, you should only have around 50 processes running, if you have more, it can negatively effect performance. On a 64 bit system, you should try to keep the processes under 500 or so, depending on your processor, less powerful processors = less processes being able to run at the same time)

Lol, Acer are actually a very good make, Ive never had any problems with mine. Its Hp you've got to watch. Defrags often take a long time if its the first time you've one it in a while But, If you're having problems with your computer, try using the acer factory default restore. It resets everything on C: drive back to how it was when you got it, shit and all. Just transfer anything you want to keep onto a blank dvd. This should clear the problem. Also, when restarting it for the first time, then defrag it. This way it will get it into a routine before you start fully using it.

Acer is a good make. Normaly a computer/laptop automaticly defrags it self. mine does it every wednesday so before you do it just check that it hasnt already done it.
And as Kaius said in his post, it does take a long time anyway.

There's nothing wrong with Acer at all.

In the power savings you'll find hibernation, you can find it at the bottom of the window where you change your screen saver, set hibernation to a longer time or never.

Don't know, then don't reply.
