Should I take the tide away
From the ocean or let it rise?
Should I take the sun away
From the sky or let it shine?
The stars speak to me every night
They tell me you're a boy
You don't have to fight
But the men in chairs
Tell me otherwise.
The moon speaks to me as I wake
It tells me it's too early son
But the early bird has got the worm
And I gotta fight for what I deserve.
The stars say it's not a fairy tale
Life's not easy, it'll give you hell,
The stars say nothing's fake or real
It's what you make it, it's how you feel,
So that's why I let them shine on
And question the vivacious sun.
It glows a deep yellow and it smiles 'cross the land
But the sun don't speak not even to the sand
It just burns it all up and takes it all away
Without a reason why it's evaporating me.
The stars speak to me every night
They tell me you're a boy
You don't have to fight
But the men in chairs
Tell me otherwise.
The moon speaks to me as I wake
It tells me it's too early son
But the early bird has got the worm
And I gotta fight for what I deserve.
But the sun don't speak
And durin' the day
I wonder who's gonna make 'em pay
For takin' my friends away,
For takin', takin' my friends away.
The stars speak to me every night
They tell me you're a boy
You don't have to fight
But the men in chairs
Tell me otherwise.
The moon speaks to me as I wake
It tells me it's too early son
But the early bird has got the worm
And I gotta fight for what I deserve.
But during the day I got no place to stay
And then men in chairs say 'we'll bring the pain'
So I listen to them 'fore I lose my chance
And I take up my rifle, the patriot stance.
