Yes they have announced a sequel to the popular avatar film. What's your opinion on this?

i haven't even seen the first one yet!!!!!!!!! depending on the ending of the film (with a cliff hanger or something) i'm all for it. and if they are going to continue on the story showing more of Pandora or Earth as long as it's made by the same director and not low budget.... i don't see why not

Do you have a link or press release to back this claim up? Just making sure this wasn't started from a faulty source.
Getting on topic, I haven't seen the first one yet. I don't think many people have yet, but it's made a good deal of money. Here's to hoping that James doesn't take another two years to make a sequel.

Ill find a link shortly but if you type in avatar on google and search under more results youll find articles regarding the fact that the actor who plays jake sully announced that he has signed for a trilogy. Im sure with a bit more searching you can find the original article.

Why a second one, the first one was good but why add on to something that doesnt need to be added on to? I'm afraid they are going to ruin it.

I have never seen the first one, but that's probably what it is going to happen.

Was the man that played the 2nd main character, where they first went into the avatars the same man who played Ned in school of rock?

Norm?
No, Norm is Joel Moore (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0601376/) and Ned in School Of Rock is Mike White (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0925234/).
Grandma's Boy is the movie I saw Joel Moore in.

Here is the info from Wikipedia on the subject:
James Cameron recently stated that there are storylines set in place that could lead to future Avatar installments. He said that he had more than one film planned from the start, and even kept scenes in Avatar that led to the sequel. "The CG [computer graphic] plants and trees and creatures and the musculo-skeletal rigging of the main characters – that all takes an enormous amount of time to create. It'd be a waste not to use it again."
Sam Worthington has signed on to reprise his role as Jake Sully in future sequels. As for other cast members returning, actor Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch, the main antagonist of Avatar, thinks he could make a return: "You think those two arrows in my chest are going to stop me from coming back?" Lang told Entertainment Weekly, "Nothing's over so long as they've got my DNA."

They should bring back Sigourney Weaver in part 2. She's a badass.

I really enjoyed the movie, but I hope they don't totally ruin it.
