I'm not looking to be one, I probably wouldn't be accepted anyway, but it bothers me that it doesn't really say it anywhere. There has to be more than just you have to have knowledge in that area (which doesn't really work with the new mod arrangements).

I think you have to have been a member for a minimum period of time with a minimum post count as well as demonstrating empathy, knowledge and good communication skills.

I wouldn't bet on min postcount carole. Autumn was a mod with around 500 posts.

There are no set requirements. If Ant wanted to, he could make anyone a mod without reason. However, this wouldn't work for the benefit of VT, so that's why mods are hand-picked by the staff to get the best possible candidates as moderators.

That being said, there are many things they look for:

Activity
Knowledge
Understanding
Good Communication
Experience

among others. One's best bet for becoming a mod is being smart, respectful, and active.

Also might I add that it's not up to Ant to decide who becomes a mod all of the senior staffers must agree on the person or they won't be chosen.

There's not set time or post count you have to have. Someone who joined 3 weeks ago with 27 posts could be made mod, although it does really take longer than that to prove worthyness of being a mod.

The requirements are and not limited to, being an active member (being on most days), being polite, trustworthy and generally showing leadership

New question: Who are the "senior staffers" because I keep hearing about them but who are they?

The senior staff are the Global Mods and the Admin.

*Admins

I thought the retired mods counted as well.

No they are retired so they aren't staff.

Retired mods definitely do not; they were never senior staff to begin with, retired admins do not because they are no longer part of VT staff, but they have a special face to respect their past contributions.

Yeah, I was made a mod with like 500 posts. Maybe even less than that.

It doesn't really matter how many posts you have, but experience, knowledge, communication and respect. If you have those things down, you can become a candidate for becoming a mod.

Question from me: how come the mods "mod face smiley" only shows up sometimes and not others?

I think it only shows up in the places they moderate. Like Tiberius. It doesn't show here but if you go to where he moderates it shows.

Right. That way, if you need to contact a moderator its a little easier to find one who actually mods the section you're having a problem in.

Except with the new changes, the 'mod' face shows up in all main forums :P
