There are many programs for people out there to accomplish their dream jobs. I know that anyone wanting to do anything in aviation should check out the Civil Air Patrol (http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com) (US and Australia). You can also check out the International Air Cadet Exchange Program
(http://www.iacea.com) to find out if there is one in your country. Also there's the Young Eagles (http://www.youngeagles.com) that take 12-17 year olds in their experimental aircraft.
Im currently a member of the Civil Air Patrol and it really helps me achieve my goal to be a pilot and to be a leader.
Feel free to post whatever you want to do and programs that help you out.

question, how hard is it to become a pilot of a light (single prop engine) plane?

Not hard really, in comparison to a commercial pilot.
All you really have to do is find an instructor, get lessons and lessons (like in class), get the flight hours you need, and take your test :)

Not very hard. Just find a good instructor and they'll teach you. You might also want some practice on a simulator. Just to warn you though, flight instruction is very costly. Im getting my license through the Civil Air Patrol and so it wont cost me thousands of dollars.

I'm going the modular route, I cant afford integrated unfortunately. I'm going to go to college, get a B.Sc in Physics or Science Education, then a H.Dip.Ed, then with the money raised I'll get my PPL etc during the school breaks etc..
I'm sticking to this I think. I mean I have wanted to fly airliners since I was a baby. Nothing else. There's no way I'm giving up now :) I've had no lessons yet but I've been told by a DL pilot and a CO one that I could "fly" through all the exams with the amount of knowledge I have already *falls over swoon*

If you wanna fly solo, you must be 16 and have 40 hours flight training. And if you do plan to be an airline pilot, join the Armed forces that use aircraft, you could get a lot of hours from the armed forces for a cheap price. And two good colleges i suggest is Embry Riddle or Dover University.
PS. I love your signature. but certain people will understand what you are saying. I understand! its funny.
