View Full Version : Religous belief?
Watchfulness

I would be interested in viewing what your religious belief and
choices are. How does your family and peers react?
I consider myself an atheist for I find no reason that "god" exist.
And the miracles that the bible claims to perform, are nought but
questionable, formed by people that can be biased.
I find the sinful acts that the Bible claims to be limiting our own
freedom and privelege, even stated those ridiculous for anyone to follow.
Like women have less position in the Church and its events, this I find to be
discriminative aspect that the Church needs to alter.
The idea of heaven and hell it self is vague for the people who manifested this idealism can be, and many are, biased on the judgement placed upon the individual and their belief. I find it disturbing that they claim their ideas are right, and do not question the validity of the book on which they gather their beliefs from.

I think that my parents have a quiet, respectful disapproval of my personal atheist views. My friends are all fine with it. My boyfriend doesn't appear to mind either.
I don't believe in a deity at all and am a firm believer in science. It can't answer all of our questions yet, but that doesn't mean that science will never be able to answer them.
Religion isn't something that I am completely against though since it can really benefit people - it just isn't for me.
I believe in having a good moral code and trying to do the best we can.
Most people respect that and I respect their beliefs.

I consider myself Agnostic, as I do not believe in god, but in higher powers.

I'm Christian through no influence from my family. They aren't atheist or Christian. I decided to take it upon myself to read the Bible, whilst my sister is influenced by her husband, they are both atheist. Which is ironic as she was the one who was Christened and not me.

I'm Christian (more specifically..Catholic) but my family is kind of "non practicing" if that makes sense. We follow the religion and most of it's beliefs but we don't go to church that much & stuff. I don't really like church to be honest. :/ And obviously I'm not a very strict Christian/Catholic if I willingly have sex way before marriage, lol.

My dad is an East Indian immigrant and my mother is pure European, she is Christian and he is Hindi.
I'm an Atheist, but I do believe in some Christian and Hindi principals.
Both of my parents are supportive of my religious choices.

I'm christian and I chose to be one. My parent is christian too.
To me personally I believe the Bible and what It has to say, and I try to follow it as hard as I can. Unfortunately there are just people around me that are being annoying and keep things like "God doesn't exist".
Hey, it's my choice to be Christian.
There are things that I find interesting in the Bible. For example, the fact that many prophecies written ages before came true. I don't care if u don't believe it or not but the existence of atheist in the future are written in the bible as the end time :P

My parents are Christian and were raised Christian. I am also a Christian, but not because they are, I can truly say that I have experienced things that have caused myself to believe. I am not talking of any out of this world experiences. I believe the Bible is the word of God, yes it has been in human hands, there maybe errors, especially after all the translations. But there is no way to prove that, there are many unanswerable questions out there. It is truly a matter of faith. :)

I'm sort of the same as you. I'm Atheist, have been for 2 years. I used to be Catholic but I stopped believing what I was being told and whatever so I became an Atheist, if that is the right way of putting it. I think my Mum and my Nan disapprove of it, especially my Nan. My mum disapproves as she wants to believe in an afterlife. I don't think my Dad gives a shit because he's not religious and only went to Church when he had to so I could get into my Catholic school. I'm happy with my (lack of) beliefs anyway.

People who do not believe what you do won't appreciate you preaching to them as I would think that they would need more than this to change their beliefs. It could offend them to hear that you think that can't live their life how they want without your 'Lord'.

Paganism is a broad term that covers a lot of different believes. Any mythology you learned of (Greek, Roman, Norse, Egyptian, Celtic, etc) in school are examples of pagan beliefs. They can be very different but typically believe in or worship multiple deities.

I hate religion. Correction: I hate what religion does to the world.
I believe that if there is a God or gods, and he/she feels the need to make me aware of her/his presence, then they will. I am what you would call a 'Doubting Thomas,' I guess. I refuse to believe anything until I have proof. I do not believe there is a giant man in the sky controlling everything we do (if there was, the world wouldn't be going to hell in a handbasket), nor do I believe that there are multiple beings in the sky that control different elements that make up the world we live in today.

When i told my parents i was an atheist they went batshit crazy. They still think they have some control over my thoughts and beliefs of nothing, but they don't. I don't go to church with them, i stay at home. Any time they bring up religion, i walk away or write "NEW CONVERSATION" on a piece of paper to them.

I'm pretty sure the Christian religion does not describe "God" as an asshole. Although the proof surrounding me sure would suggest that...

When you refered to it as a "giant man in the sky", I assumed you were not talking about the Christian god in particular and just any sort of similar deity. Of course, the cubicle drone learns quickly not to call their boss an asshole, regardless of how much it may need to be said.

I am a devout atheist. The questions religions attempt to address are far too important for me to accept simply based on faith. It isn't even easy to believe. god loves us more than his son so sends him to earth to be killed in the worst way possible to correct the sin of humanity he himself set up but he didn't do a good enough job so Jesus is coming again? what?

I do not believe in any one religion. I personally think that there is a higher being but that no one religion has all the answers and that the true answer is a combination of bits from all of the religions; although finding those bits would be hard :L. I also think that at times it can be good - disasters etc - but can be bad at other times - wars and other things justified by religion. If anyone is looking for a good discussion on religion then check out "The Iolaire" by Iain Crichton Smith.
