Probably, both. I mean most girls do not mind going out, but I think you tried to go over the top. It was a nice gesture, but most girls do not go for that. Also I do not think they like Opera much either.

ok, for a first date???? A formal....bud, u went all wrong with this one! Next time just try a movie or doing something she likes! like if she likes painting, take her to an art studio and paint with her...if she likes snowboarding, take her to the slopes, even if you cant do it at all! But, save the formals for later on, like when your gonna finnally pop the question, or tell her you love her!

For a first when you are a teenager the first two and quite, well eccentric. A movie or the like is fine.

You had good intentions.

But I think a good first date would just to have fun. Ask her what she likes to do, maybe go see a movie, and then go grab a bit to eat at a casual restaurant.

Next time be more yourself, and don't try to impress her by taking her to these ostentatious locations. :)

I think she was simply overwhelmed and confused at your very generous gestures. Instead of the zagat rated restaurant try a cafe. Instead of the opera, try a movie. It sounds like you're a very cultured fellow, but most chicks don't dig that. It doesn't mean you can't eventually do nice things with your date, but for a first date, don't go overboard. Even though I LOVE opera and nice restaurants doesn't mean I want to do those things on a first date :/
