Okay, so today i went on a Keygen site something like www.keygen.us

And when i went on it said "You must press yes to continue" and i pressed X, and then a window popped up said Script Prompt with all these weird characters. Did i just get hacked or something?

why are you even looking up cracks and key gens?

thats against the law i believe.....but im sure 90% of people do it from time to time lol

i dont know if you got hacked but im sure your computer would not be under your control if you did

do some scans for spyware and viruses and all that

i must admit i have been on a few of thise sites and if your not careful you can get spyware, viruses ect. but run spybot s&d and if nothing has popped up since then you are probally ok, but just run a few scans to make sure.

You weren't hacked... that word is completely over-used. The site just tried to install something or activate some cookie. You shouldn't be too worried, though use Spybot S&D's advanced options to view your BHO and ActiveX lists - see if there's a blacklisted installation (shown in red). Also, be sure to lock your host files (in the IE Tweaks section) and immunize your system (in the Spybot S&D main section) with Spybot S&D!

If you're going to use keygens and cracks, Scan anything you download before you open and run it. Some are clean but others can contain some very nasty worms etc.

So true! "Hacked", "Hack" and "Hacker" all mean something completely different to me. To me they're people like RMS, Alan Cox, Linus Torvalds... people who are amazing programmers.

Okay Kiros, I did what you told me to do. Now i just have one more question. Is there a way to scan files before i download them?

sometime you can right-click on the file and the option to do it will be at the top, or go in to the programe you plan to use to scan and just scan that file, or if you dont have to option to do that, scan the whole system

Here's the thing, before you even go back to a crack/keygen site, you must get/use a safe browser, like Avant Browser. When you want to go to a certain site like that (or just any bad site in general), you will want to start up Avant Browser and keep it on your home page while you do some tweaking. Go to Tools >> Disable Flash Animations, Disable ActiveX, Disable Scripts, Disable Java Applets. As for even more safety (from buffer overloading) you may want to disable pictures, sounds, and videos as well (all you really need is text and links anyway). Now then, make sure your firewall and anti-virus auto-protect (like in Norton AntiVirus) is on and running in the highest, safest mode possible. Now browse to what you want.

When you download a file, such as a crack/keygen that may have malicious functionality, only save it to a place that you can get to it. Then, if it is a zip, rar, tar, or ace file, unzip (extract) the contents to the same folder - do not run anything though. Now either do one of two thing (pending on your anti-virus): If your anti-virus supports it, highlight all of the files (archive and extracted contents) in that folder, alternate (usually right) click, and select the scan option - or - if you don't have a scan option in the context menu, then go into your anti-virus, select a type of scan that allows you to customize the folders it scans, and select the folder you want to scan (the one with all the contents in it).

That's it. If nothing is found (and your anti-virus software is up-to-date) then no viruses exist in the application(s). Make sure your anti-virus software is able to scan for more than just viruses (worms, Trojans, malware, adware, spyware, and joke programs for instance). :)

only use cracks or keygens that are made by the real deal people. i mean, these types of things are illegal but if u must, they kind of people that make the really good types of things tend to not load there stuff with viruses and crap

The only two groups I have full trust in are DEViANCE and CORE. I favor CORE when I can, as I use to contribute towards their success - and it's sad that they might die out soon. Anyway, someone could easily tag their viruses and crap with DEViANCE or CORE, so I'm not saying you should always believe it. CORE usually has two files in their archived files (being CORE.nfo and a file ID with a DIZ extension). DEViANCE usually works specifically with games and has a file within every archived file (being deviance.nfo).
I'm starting to get into FFF's work, but like I said, DEViANCE and CORE are my trusted groups.
