While trying to install a second hard drive (for BSD) I bent the pins on my CD/DVD burner and replaced it with an old one. It's faster but much, much larger (I had to remove the power supply to get it in). Anyway, it's starting to get cramped in there and I'm afraid the CPU fan might clip one of the wires or that one of the wires would jam the CPU fan. Is this a big risk? Thanks.

Actually, it is a big risk. The wires getting clipped is not a concern, however, if the CPU fan stops, and there's no alarm (or no one hears the alarm in time) then the CPU will overheat and might pop or fry (which will completely destroy the internals of the processor). This is an even bigger risk if you have a P4 in there - instead of a lower model Intel or any AMD. Try to stuff the IDE and power cables somewhere or find something to tie them down/anchor them.

In that case I'm not going to worry to much. It's an extremely low end Celeron. But, on the other hand I'm getting my upgrades soon which includes an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ as well as a much bigger case so that should solve the problem. In the man time I got some electrical tape and stuck the cables to the wall of the case, away from anything spinny or hot.
