What's so difficult about this?
Maybe I'm living in a secrete land, but it's really irking me. Just in the past week or so, I've gotten several anonymous comments, complementing my defense of LGBT on here.
IRL i get comments on it too. That I have physically defended people who were being harassed for their sexuality. Apparently this is strange.
Why  Why is it so fucking unheard of that, oh maybe someone feels that people should be treated as human beings, not because of their sexuality or gender?
Plenty of people believe in equality.
I challenge you all. Stand up for what you believe in, even when it's not "acceptable".
You might get a better response than you'd expect.

I believe in equality, but I also believe in not getting jumped by 10 people.
I stand up for people when I won't be attacked for doing so.
I feel bad that I can't help very much. But, where I live, if you defended a gay person, most of the time people would probably beat you up.

I agree with you. I think all people are equal and there is no reason for discrimination.
Having said that, standing up is extremely difficult. People are extremely quick to judge. Standing up for a gay person, or the gay community, must mean you're gay, right?

Which.. is never?...
Personally, i've never dealt with more than 2 people at once....

Maybe I can't talk, since I like girls... but how does respecting humanity make anyone's sexuality?

I'm referring to physically. I'm not exactly very big, I can't fight two people at one time.
I'm looking out for number one because I don't want to end up in the hospital, Bobby.

Yeah.. I'm talking about physically too...
Most of those people are cowards, and if you hit them hard enough once, they let off.

Why the hell should you hit someone for being a bigot? Violence is not the answer with people like them and it doesn't do anything but cause more hatred.

I've hit people
For trying to physically harrass my friends, for their sexuality.
For being a bigot, I'll just make my voice heard. If it leads to them trying to hit me, so be it.

Not really where I live.
I do defend people a lot of the time though.
I'm just afraid of people hurting me. I was in a library, all of a sudden we hear a bang, and some guy is on the ground and there are like 3 kids beating the shit out of him. I don't want that to happen to me.

If someone hit me, I'd hit back.
But it's different when there are several of them hitting you.

I'm sorry.
I was trying to say I do stick up for them, most of the time. I do stand up for what I believe in, and I commend you for going further than I do.

Translation: Maybe people were taught to dislike the gay kids. Maybe they're just following what their parents say (most of the time).
And, no. I disagree. You'd be surprised how many parents are actually quite accepting of the GLBT community. Granted, there are those few assholes who are just like their kids (not trying to make a generalization, but sometimes it's true).

If someone physically assaults your friend because of their sexuality it's called a hate crime and should be reported as that. The best way to truly stand up and end bigotry and discrimination is true non violent ways even if violence is thrown at you, two wrongs don't make a right hun. For example, during the height of racism against african americans there were two groups out there fighting for the same thing, one used violent measures and one used non violent ones. They were the Black Panthers and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the both fought for the same goal but the nonviolent path is the one that produced better results.

PA has no laws against LGBT hate crimes.
I can get expelled for my sexuality (my principal won't do that), I can (and have) been denyed a job for it, and legally if someone kills another because of their sexuality or gender identity, it's only (if even) marked as a murder, not hate crime.
I can't report it as a hate crime. I can't even report it to the police, even if I stayed out of it (which, I won't. If i see someone getting hurt, I'll protect them. There's a difference between 2 wrongs = right and defending someone), because they can't/won't do anything about it.

I dont like it at all. But it is impossible to eradicate a thought from someones head. there will always be a rascist, bigot, anti gay/bi, hater out there. We cant stop it. I wouuld stand up for someone if i had the chance though.

I can't believe you'd be expelled!! That'd definitely be illegal unless you went to a private religious school. I'm at one now and there are a couple people who are out but I don't feel comfortable enough to come out myself. We're in Maryland so dint think it's all that different. And as for hate crimes, hopefully this administration can pass something on the national level.

I can be, mostly for my gender, but my principal is gay, so she won't.
I beleive maryland has better laws...

And if you're willing to take it to another level there actually IS a federal law against hate crimes including sexual orientation.
The Matthew Shepard Act, officially the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, is an Act of Congress, passed on October 22, 2009,[1] and was signed into law by President Barack Obama on October 28, 2009,[2] as a rider to the National Defense Authorization Act for 2010 (H.R. 2647). This measure expands the 1969 United States federal hate-crime law to include crimes motivated by a victim's actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.[3]
The bill also:
removes the prerequisite that the victim be engaging in a federally-protected activity, like voting or going to school;
gives federal authorities greater ability to engage in hate crimes investigations that local authorities choose not to pursue;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Shepard_Act
So yea something can be done about it and it is illegal even if the state doesn't recognize it. Also if you're school expels you because of your sexual orientation that is discrimination which you could also take up with the federal court.

That doesn't change the fact that if I ever went to one of the cops that are in this town, and tried to report the shit I see/interfere with on a semi-weekly basis (i'm only talking about stuff that goes too far), they'd laugh in my face and tell me to get lost. The cops here DON'T CARE. Hell, they don't even care about the fact that kids are drinking outside my school after 2pm
It doesn't change the fact that the combination of my age and perceived sexuality will keep me from getting a job, even when other 14/15y/os can get a job.
My school won't, since like I said, my principal is a lesbian, but I almost got suspended for being attacked over my sexuality, because no one believed me that I didn't do anything.
The state of PA doesn't recognize it, and it's not worth it to take some of this to federal courts, especially when you're not even out at home.
I know federal law overrules state law, technically. But if it really did, then there wouldn't be places that still allow this shit, and there wouldn't be any argument if two people can get fucking married, and take some kids out of the foster care system (adoption), because all fucking men are created equal.
So yeah, I'm still gonna interfere. Hell, I'd be interfering even if I wouldn't be ignored by the "authorities" that run this godforsaken country.
