Eurgh, go away.

Unless you want Simon Cowell's productions of sickeningly generic atrocity to earn him shit loads more money than he deserves, once again?

Meh, Joe has a good voice and I wouldn't have minded him as number one if Olly had actually had a chance in the final.. Simon picked that Miley Cyrus song especially for Joe. It was obvious too that he wanted him to win eventhough Olly was his act. So stupid.. I'm very glad Rage against the machine is now number 1  Mainly because now Simon knows that the Xfactor is dying out and he can give up trying to drain every bit of money he can out of it. In Bhs the other day I saw Xfactor Chocolate.. *Facepalm* Thats just taking it too far in my opinion.

There's no need to take it seriously.
Yeah, each to their own, I guess. Lol.

Whether you like RATM's song or not, the whole principle of this campaign is that we're trying to knock the X Factor act off the top spot this year in regards to bastard Cowell's dominance over the (pretty damn appauling) UK music charts.

IMO, this campaign has given real music a chance this year, rather than the same old shitty manufactured karaoke act...

Yeah, it ain't good. :P

Implying that Rage Against The Machine isn't trash.

I just think its mean spirited, really not right at all in the Christmas season, to try to hijack the charts just to block someone. People should just have been left to buy whatever they want, not persuaded to buy something they dont want, its so negative.

Without any knowledge of whatever the hell you listen to, GTFO.

Besides, regardless of whether people like RATM or not, it's good that their song 'Killing In The Name Of' reached the top spot instead of the same generic X Factor winner. It's good to have a change once in a while!

Funny, that. The X Factor or any other works of the devil (i.e. Simon Cowell) have pretty much hijacked the charts for the past 5 years or so.

Music is personal opinion

The reason that the song "Killing in the name of" was chosen is due to what it stands for. One of the main reasons was due to the repetitive lyrics "F**k you, I won't do what you tell me"

As in people are not going to go and buy X factor number 1 just because it is released at this time and has a huge media hype about it.

I don't think music is personal choice as much any more. You're born into a society that is owned by corporations. Once you're old enough to have an interest in music, what's the first kind of music you're going to hear? It's going to be pop music, the music that makes it into the chart, the music that is endorsed by big record companies (the music that has money behind it). You become socially pressured to listen to popular music because everyone else does; people do it to fit in. Most popular music is easy to produce, it's all done on a computer and auto tuned. This manufactured, throwaway music is cheaper for record companies to make, so that's what they sell you. And they know as long as they have a pretty face (Joe McElderry, Cheryl Cole, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown etc.) singing the shit that is produced, it's going to sell well. They've tapped into the fact that we're a society that cares a fuckload about image, people idolise the singers, rappers whatever the fuck it is and they want to look like them (clothes, jewellery, trainers), smell like them (perfume) and even eat the damn thing (X Factor chocolate). You may think you like mainstream music, but really you've just been brainwashed to like it by the corporations who run this planet.

"Entire nation votes a mediocre American song that is 17 years old as the best British song of the year. People think it's a statement. More news to follow."

Basically. The only waffle factor being that at least some of the money is going to Shelter, which is a very worthy charity. If it'd been virtually any other band except Rage Against the Machine, an ostensibly anti-corporate band signed to Sony, I probably wouldn't have any problem. However, the closing refrain of the song, the swearing and the fact that people seem to genuinely think that RATM were rebellious really bothers me because it makes me think that people might be voting it to number one as an act of anti-capitalism or protest, which is some bullshit.

overcome.

I respect Simon Cowell, he works hard and unlike so many people he really does tell it how it is. I saw that he earnt 200m this decade, well done to him. The only X Factor singers I've quite liked have been a few of Shayne Ward's songs, 1-2 of Leona Lewis' and I was a big fan of a guy Ben Mills who got third behind Leona/Ray Quinn a few years back. However, I'm not interested in Joe's song and I supported Rage for #1. What about having 'Wake Up' by Rage for Christmas #1 next year? :P
