I imagine it would just be the extra feeling from your penis rubbing against the fabric. Which your not used to as you normally wear boxers/briefs...

whenever I go commando, I usually get a boner. I am pretty sure It's just from the random freedom your penis gets and I usually just ignore it or pretend I am wearing boxers/briefs and it goes away. I am 15 btw

Yea its just because the penis has less support so it rubs around more and against far rougher fabric. I'm 15

Sometimes you get erect simply because of the stimulation from a rougher fabric, as aforementioned.

It really doesn't have anything to do with you being horny or anything, it's just the nerves in that area that are incredibly sensitive and therefore more likely to be I guess the word would be stimulated, haha.

It happens to a lot of people, and that has a lot to do with the fabric rubbing against you. You're stimulated (not by choice, or due to anything sexual), and your nerves just react. Underwear limits the amount of friction, and therefore limits the amount of erections you'll get in a day. :) There's a reason it exists, haha.

I go commando as much as possible except on days when I have gym. I get boners pretty often and easily going commando but I just hide it, I'm 17.
